I do like the idea of those being eligible must be 23 or younger when enacted. No body harmed and those are the ones that might need those two years with all the tech coming our way. No pilot shortage now or ever at the majors. Defending the idea of staffing shortages at low paying flying jobs like the regionals, 135 ranks, or the bottom feed ACMI isn’t very honest.
Not sure you'd like the result of the easiest age discrimination lawsuit ever.

According to our mandatory retirement numbers, if I trucked it to mandatory retirement, I'll finish up around top 6-7% based on current numbers. However, looking at MySeniority, at my planned early retirement, if Age 65 stays in place, I'll be out at around 13%. Still not bad, right? If Age 67 rolls around, then leaving at my planned age, it's puts me just over 25% seniority. You think they're greedy? Brah, no need for the mental gymnastics... I'll just go ahead and say the quiet part out loud. I'm greedy.

Greedy for wanting to make the most out of your career under the present rules VS greedy to the point of wanting to change the rules to your benefit at the detriment of others are not the same kind of greedy. Not even the same zip code.

I'm confused, which is it
The US politicians looking to change the rules don't give an iota about the nuances of the airline industry. The airlines don't want it because they know it'll come with huge training costs and every time big changes like this rock the boat, it comes at a cost. The big dogs at the top supporting this either don't know don't care or a little of both.

Why aren’t there age discrimination cases every year for the past 80 years in our field? What’s easy about your case?

The retirement age shifted from 60 to 65 in 2007, a change that hosed many of us midstream. That precedent shows rules can and do change, so I have no reservations about admitting my self-interest in wanting those old coots to retire. I’m as driven by personal gain as they are, and I see no need to cloak my position in moral superiority.

How are you gonna show that your proposal of applying the new retirement age only to pilots under 23 doesn’t violate basic age discrimination in employment?

I’ve heard that it may still take a few years before ICAO agrees to raise the age..?
To answer your question more directly, there is no vote on the docket for age 67 at the ICAO conference. The only thing that is on the docket is a presentation by IATA to the Technical Commission. It is not an agenda item, which doesn't mean that a vote couldn't happen, but there is no plan to do so.

But it's also changed only once since it's inception over half a century ago while the airline industry was in a very bad place and under very different circumstances from today.
