Wow Randie,

Glad to see your enjoying your twilight years as a line-puke. Why not go play golf or put some jigsaw puzzles together and let some new blood fly airplanes?

I used to run into morons like you when we had 747's and DC-10's and had 70 year old F/E's all the while we were furloughing guys who needed the job. These clowns had no other life other than the one where they wore 4 stripes and paraded around the grocery store in uniform hoping to look impressive.

One word......Pathetic.

You PB are completly missing the point here, let me TRY to bring u up 2 speed most people do not necessarily want, or feel like "retiring" these days (of better general health), at age 60, and if a person has a job that they love why should they "retire" just because a bunch of "young punks" (your words NOT mine) want to "take over" now lets get back to the theme of this thread.

What if it is unsafe? I know plenty of old timers who have an old friend flight surgeon in their back pocket. Besides the system is meant to move forward at the current pace. The younger generation have to be able to advance in a timely manner or else they will not be able to support their families. Eliminating the age 60 rule would create 14% more pilots overnight. It isn't right just to give those who should retire something to do with their time.

Go for it...make as much money as you can. Are you going to buy property in India or is the company going to provide you with a place to stay?

Which company are you going to fly for?

It would increase the pool of active pilots, but a lot of them would jump out anyway, for reasons you and others have cited. If more guys realized how enjoyable retirement is, even with a greatly reduced income, there would be plenty of upward mobility for younger pilots. Yes, the recent pension-chopping has made some feel trapped on active duty, but many pilots don't appreciate just how well they could do in other fields, even in their 50s and 60s. Some who stayed longer than was prudent may now be reluctant to admit a mistake. But the earlier one makes a move, the better.

There are no tombstones with the inscription: "I wish I'd spent more time at the office".

Its been my experience, that generaly pilots do not make good businessmen, also my experience is that once airline pilots no longer HAVE to do medicals every 6 months, they seem to just sucumb to lazy bad habits, like retiring (lol) and flopping down in front of the tv, and vegetating. also in my world pilots DO NOT have docters "in thier back pockets" matter of fact i did a FAA medical for only the 2nd time in 38 years in feb, at a doc in orlando, who gave me a blasting because my BP was 140/80 and he didn`t like the 140 bit

I did not at 1st feel that this type of post deserved an answer, but if you are a 757 "driver" i`ll presume you have some intelligence----
(1)I`m not a line puke i leave that for u.
(2) i don`t like golf or jigsaw puzzles and what i do in my spare time is no concern of yours.
(3)by "new blood" u refer to whom?
(4)i don`t know about the "morons" that u have run into but i was a F/E between the ages of 21-27.
(5)the last flight i did was for a billionaire who owns a chemical co and a Lear60, who insisted that i fly him in blue jeans so the 4 stripes ranting is not my thing.

as for pathetic, what is pathetic, is that so called young-bloods, persumably like you, are so afraid that the 60 rule will go away, and with your limited abilities, you wont be able to hold your own, that you have resorted to calling older pilots morons.

The age 60 rule will soon be history so better study for your next sim.instead of spouting alot of venom hereabouts.

Randull,

You're right, my post was juvenile and I should leave the name calling elsewhere. I guess my point is, do you have a life outside the airlines? Do you have an activity that you enjoy above all else? Are you capable of finding pleasure in things other than Avaition?

If you can answer yes to any of these, move on. I, for one, am looking forward to 60 and I DO NOT want to work beyond it. I remember signing my application at CAL and being told "you will retire at age 60". Do you remember that?

If we really want to make the new rule fair, here's a suggestion. Make the age 65 change apply ONLY to those hired 1 day after its enactment. That way people who have no life to live can cling to the Captains seat for as long as they choose and us "Old Guys", (who agreed to leave at 60), can fade off into the sunset like we said we would.

Again, sorry for the harsh words, but get a life dammit !!
