...as for pathetic, what is pathetic, is that so called young-bloods, persumably like you, are so afraid that the 60 rule will go away, and with your limited abilities, you wont be able to hold your own, that you have resorted to calling older pilots morons.

By your profile, you did not fly military. I have flown with many men over fifty pulling a lot of g's and moving very fast. They don't perform as well physically as the 22 year olds...period..dot...no questions about it. However, their experience in the air gives them an edge in situational awareness. This is dependent that their mind is still fit. Besides, this advantage only lasts for a short period while the younger pilot gains experience. By the way, military pilots "compete" for positions. We are airline pilots and "holding your own" is a silly statement. Kind of like the people that brag how they "upgraded" to captain ahead of many others. Wow, they got hired first and bid it....tough competition. They must have hands of gold to do that. People, please be honest with yourselves and recognize that a 60 year old physically and assuming all else equal (education...etc.), is not as sharp or strong as a 25 year old.

If you can answer yes to any of these, move on. I, for one, am looking forward to 60 and I DO NOT want to work beyond it. I remember signing my application at CAL and being told "you will retire at age 60". Do you remember that?

If we really want to make the new rule fair, here's a suggestion. Make the age 65 change apply ONLY to those hired 1 day after its enactment. That way people who have no life to live can cling to the Captains seat for as long as they choose and us "Old Guys", (who agreed to leave at 60), can fade off into the sunset like we said we would.

Again, sorry for the harsh words, but get a life dammit !!
No offense taken 757, i understand your point but --me personally, i`m no threat to any US pilot cause i just toodle around in my LR60 more or less getting paid to have fun and i sure as hell ain`t gonna apply for any "Airline" job ,even if they raised the age t/moro, regardless, i would have to start over and i am NOT about to do that, going to India is my way off paying off my mortgage, car payments etc, come back here in 4 years and really "retire" besides it`ll be an adventure ,so i`m told ---on a lighter note, one of my buddies over there, went to spend the weekend with the other buddy, while having his routine morn "dump" he noticed that there was only 2-3 sheets of t/paper, on enquiry about more our "now gone native" buddy informed him that there is no more, and to use the little hose on/in the wall next to him holy moly!!! gotta go i`m off to B.J.s to buy a case heh heh heh

Your reasoning reads to be a bit contradictory.
Face it you don't need to be as physically fit as a 25 year old (assuming a fit 25 yo) to fly today's 121 aircraft.
As a passenger I would much rather have a pilot, Captain, with better SA and fit for his/her age than a strong 25 year old pilot.

Fly Safe. I do.

You CUT the part that was convenient to cut. You should get a job with the media. The SA advantage only lasts a short time. By the time people are flying for a major airline, the advantage is gone. I.E. Younger pilots are less prone to physical problems than older pilots. You are right about 121 ops not being physical flying. However, the long days and long flights over the pond
ARE. I have many non stop flights over 28 hours. Everybody gets tired. The older guys just don't do as well the longer the time gets. This doesn't mean that there are not very good and qualified guys that are 60. Do you actually beleive the older you are, the more healthy you get? As pilots we have to be physically and mentally heathy..not one or the other, both. What will be the next push...fly until you are 70. There has to be a limit somewhere. I would venture to say the great Bob Hoover would admit he is not as skilled as he once was. I do respect your opinions though..old fella.

Default young blood

randal:
do you have a problem with young pilots trying to get a job these days? how is today different than when you started flying? i was unaware of the fact that you're gods gift to flying?

i am a young blood, working my way up like you once had to do, duhhhhh... i dont care whether age 60 goes away right now or not, because i still think the best pilots get the jobs, not their age...
limited abilities? how many pilots on APC.com have you flown with in person? how can you attest to their abilities? if you're referring to newbies at airlines that are 22 years old, how were you the first time you had a pair of jet engines strapped to your ass, a little overwhelming maybe?

hold my own? : unless you have flown combat or military (which i give all the credit in the world to) or have had to compete for something in front of tens of thousands, how do you know what kind of pressure i can deal with?

for someone that says they are over 60 (and presumably from the old school of thinking) you sure as hell are arrogant!!!!!

Just a curiosity question, where do you fly to that takes 28 hours in 121 ops? I've flow over ALL the ponds and it never took that long.
I cut & pasted to show that you contradicted yourself. Youngster.
Please do not read between my lines. "Do you actually beleive the older you are, the more healthy you get?" No. I said "... fit for his/her age ..."
So at what age is it that you are both physically and mentally peaked? That is the best pilot, I agree. Realistically though 121 carriers cannot hire on that age because we do not know it.
Tell us when does the young pilot turn into the 'older guys"? Is it based on age?
I do agree with your long flights comment, I left the airline that did that for one that did not.
Take care young pup.
