Southwest may make a bid for Frontier
#191
I am guessing that it'll be more like the Morris deal with all pilots being offered employment at SWA, no interviews. That could go horribly wrong however, if no agreement could be reached (as happened with Muse Air). When I say horribly wrong, I mean that SWA will either withdraw their bid or not offer guaranteed employment. I would also guess that a potential agreement for pay rates and seniority are being discussed right now by FAPA and SWAPA.

As a wife to an 11 year F9 captain, I hope you are wrong but I don't have a good feeling about this at all.
It just sucks for Frontier as they are an awesome airline and I believe SWA intent is to just take out the competition as they could careless about the empolyees. I read this in a newspaper article:
"Frontier has made Southwest's life miserable," Boyd said. "In virtually every market where Southwest and Frontier compete head-on, Frontier has more market share, higher load factors and higher fares. Their brand loyalty here in Denver is astronomical."
My husband LOVES flying for Frontier and before the credit card company forced them into bankruptcy, we thought he would retire with them. It is sad to think they probably won't be around as a company much longer. I know so many people that always say how much they LOVE Frontier and I personally think UAL will pick up more business as I know many people that hate and refuse to fly SWA.
It just sucks all the way around.

I am from Evergreen, and even I do not put much stock into what Mike Boyd has to say... So, I wouldn't worry about that too much either. There are many speculations and opinions floating around right now- I am just going to wait until we see a final bid, a final award, etc.
That said, you seem to have a very negative view of SWA. I hope if your husband gets integrated into the SWA senority, gets 11 year FO or even CA pay, bumps my 5 year FO husband back, gets kick-ass insurance and benefits, and realizes how amazing it is to work at Southwest, all of those people you know that are going to fly on United because they "hate and refuse to fly Southwest" will change their mind.
I'm just sayin...

SWA is really ruthless when it comes to buying other companies and integrating employees. Make no mistake, if SWA buys F9, it will be 100% business and no favors or niceties will be offered. SWA is strategically moving into DEN and wants 1/3rd of the market with F9's market share; it is a very good move by SWA to challenge UAL and looks like it is more to keep RC from acquiring F9.
They simply get rid of all F9's Airbuses, either integrate some or none of the employees, or some re-hire scheme, then grow the DEN market share.
Now, if only their under-valued stock would go up!

And that Union will Do Nothing to keep F9 People in their jobs!
SWA only has their best interests in mind--and there is no way in hell that SWA F/O's are going to allow any F9 er's on the List in Front of Them.
So much for " Fair and Equitable "
Maybe I'm wrong---Maybe the SWAPA will step up and allow " Fair and Equitable" Integration of the F9 er's into their Senority List.
Oh, That's Right, I forgot---SWA and their SWAPA Have Never Let, or Integrated, Anyone onto their List.
Well here is your chance--if SWA bid is successful, let's see if SWAPA will allow the F9 er's into the SWA club.
I hope so for F9'S Sake.
BTW:
" In your hurry to slap me down with the above example of your intellect "
I wasn't making an effort to slap you down--and what I wrote wasn't even a half hearted attempt at the demonstration of Superior Intellect--it was a full dose of Sarcasm .
But you were so busy being offended, that any point would have flown directly over your head anyway .

I understand your frustration and sadness of losing Frontier- I am sure your husband has enjoyed 11 years at an airline that has consistently provided an excellent product and service. I do think, however, that you have to remember nothing is set in stone yet... Unfortunately, the days of Frontier as we know them are never going to be the same. In one way or another, Frontier will be a different airline over the next few years.

I just have a hard time believing SWA really cares about F9 employees. They came to Denver in 2006 and I strongly believe it was to put Frontier out of business. I know it isn't SWA fault they are in bankruptcy (I blame the CC company and the high gas prices) but I think they would do what they could to get Frontier's gates. I've been all sorts of "rumors" since they came to town.
Obviously, if by some miracle, my husband retains his senority and has a great career with SWA I will be very greatful and appreciative...but that is a BIG if...until then all we can do is wait.
I wish you and your family a long and happy career in this "turbulent" industry!!

According to the article I read, Southwest will operate Frontier seperately until the Airbuses can be replaced by 737s. All Frontier pilots will become Southwest pilots. So essentially, it made it sound that each Airbus will be replaced frame for frame by a new 737. It seems to me that Frontier pilots will score big and get to work for the holy Grail of the industry, rather than the scum eating bottom feeders. Best of luck to Frontier and the southwest deal.
A CRJ F/O with an Avatar of a Frontier Airlines Tail????
The dream was always running ahead of me. To catch up, to live for a moment in unison with it, that was the miracle.

It's a 757 tail.
See the plane here
Iron Maiden's lead singer, Bruce Dickinson, is also a 757 Captain.
Oh, and another FYI, your quote ("The dream was always running ahead of me. To catch up, to live for a moment in unison with it, that was the miracle") is by Anais Nin, best known to many for her female erotica writings and journals. I had to google it, since you didn't attribute it to anyone.

Something else to consider...
"There are roughly 2,500 back office people at Frontier in Denver that are what they call synergistic cost centers. These aren't the people whom I represent, but they are my friends. The Southwest deal would probably eliminate more of these jobs than a Republic deal because Republic doesn't have the ticketing and back office operations that Frontier provides."
