jetblue pilot poolies

UAL provides better pay/retirement/benefits, a CBA that the company is held accountable to, retirements providing seniority movement, a business model that has grown and stood the test of time (founded 1927), global route network and aircraft options to see the world.

Time tested, lol. Subsidized by the goverment until the 70's. Furloughed about 15% of the pilots-going on 10 years now. Took 60% pay cuts. My friend that works there made more money as a 3 year FO than he did 10 years later for the year he was a Captain. I know 2 guys that left southwest and 2 guys that left UPS for United in late 90's because " legacy, captains make 350 hour, been around for a long time, retirements coming, mass hiring" guess how they feel about those decisions now while they are furloughed or sitting reserve when the could of been captains. Time tested in screwing people over is more like it. Legacy airlines are like crack for pilots.

From: next to chronic complainers...
All this talk about people leaving JB and "the grass is greener" mentality brings up a good question. Do people that are leaving JB actually think they are going to be happier or have more pride in what they do by going to a company like UAL/CAL, USAirways, or AA? I can understand DAL, but the others offer nothing but a historically low moral work environment and a generally negative vibe. My friend who has worked at CAL/UAL for the last 6 years has continually complained about how terrible management treats the pilot group and how it is just a big regional with regards to work rules. I've talked with many extremely senior UAL guys (747 and 777 Captains) that talk about burning the place down and how they would rather destroy the company than work there for another day. I've heard the same complaints from guys and gals at AA and USAirways and been told my many that I should not even think about applying at these carriers unless I want to hate my job every day for the rest of my career.
I understand you'll move up way quicker at a legacy with the future retirements and your earning potential MAY be greater long-term, but no one ever seems to consider QOL or having pride in their position as considerations when choosing a career airline. Do people honestly not care that the general public associates an employee of many legacy airlines as representing a terrible organization that could care less about the passenger, and of course the employee group. Are there people our there that only care about the pay and moving up in seniority? Sounds like a friend of mine who works at the Post Office! Contracts will come and go, but management will not just change overnight. Many management teams at legacy carriers will continue to find ways to keep the pilot group negative regardless of contract negotiations or pay increases (scope, RSV rules, etc..).
I find it very confusing when my same friend who has spent years complaining about how horrible it is to work at UAL/CAL and how embarrassing it is to represent the airline to the public now is encouraging me to apply? I had a USAirways Captain practically beg me not to apply as he thought I would be happier working at Home Depot!
JB may have plenty of issues, but in my short time here I have found the pilot group to be generally much happier than some Legacy groups and cerainly the customers seem to love the product. I think there is something to be said about having pride in where you work, but maybe that's just me!

We all do what's best for us not company. I have been commuting for almost 15 years and I'm sick of it, the potential if driving to work outweighs a lot of other good things about jB; CBA also gives me a piece of mind, lack of it in jB, and ambiguity of IPA and 5 docs scares me, and the last move of jB Managment to change of the important benefits over night indicates to me, that as soon as jB stop making money they will do more drastic measures to survive if they are doing such as changes when making billions.

I couldn't agree more, for me QOL is priority one so no commuting hence B6. Chatted with UAL 20 year Airbus FO commuting with 12 days off a month making 100k with less then desirable work rules...he was miserable to say the least. I know improvements are needed with B6 and will support all efforts to do so, but the greener pastures theory doesn't stick with me looking at legacy carriers.
Being based at home is the ultimate career enhancement though and I understand that argument 100% but bases open and close all the time.(if you live in ny i imagine your safe)

You talk of pride. But, employees don't feel a sense of pride when they they go unrecognized by their employers. Employees feel let down when employers fail to invest in them, instead compensating them below the going rate. Good will is also diminished when employers keep trying to reinforce how fortunate they are just to be part of something "different" in the face of sub-par compensation and benefits.
You mention quality of life. This comes via work rules, multiple bases and fleets, compensation and benefits, career progression etc. Is there really any doubt as to where those are to be had?
If you aren't concerned about providing for a family and the long term, maybe flight instructing would be a good avenue. You could have lots of pride in doing the job well and serving your customers.
