You can put in preferences for your short call days and request AM or PM. They do not have to honor the requests, but most of the time they do. You can also move off days and drop payback days on your schedule. I've had pretty good luck getting the time I need off.

My observation is that High Yellow slips are not always honored before they use a regular reserve and the Reserve Utilization Order gets muddy when it comes to high and low yellow slips.

Not to be pedantic, but high and low yellows no longer exist. It's just a yellow slip now, which lowers your raw score 15 points. They kept the name "yellow slip" but it doesn't mean what it used to.

Are you referring to the ability to request a specific rotation while on reserve under the slip request function?

I know the basics, but it's still a system that abrogates seniority. Therefore in an industry where seniority is everything.. it is wrong. Period.

Well actually according to the schedulers (Tom) a high yellow is when a reserve pilot puts in a yellow slip for off day fly, and a low is for a guy that reduces his RAW value.
Now I agree that it is the same for a line holder.

While the schedulers may call it that, there is no such animal as a high yellow anymore according to the contract. This is just the side effect of using a term that is familiar to many to to describe a new thing, but which has no relationship to the prior meaning. There is nothing on ecrew labelled "high yellow." Line holders can put in for a greenslip or whiteslip to fly on an off day, and a reserve can put in a greenslip.

While I know that this sounds anal, if we allow management (scedulers) to make up their own terms for items in our contract, what other liberties are they taking?

Yes it does. It is supposed to. But, there is no way to honor seniority without having pilots who fill up before the end of the month.

I really don't have a problem with the reserve system other than I think seniority should be honored in giving out short calls. Further, I think two times a year, Thanksgiving and Christmas, the RAW should go out the window and seniority should dictate who flies and who stays home. There is no excuse, RAW score or not, for a senior pilot to get a trip over Christmas while someone junior to him/her stays home.

Reserve is not bad if you live in base. I jumped early to hold captain, and was on reserve for about six months. But, I won't go back on reserve again.

We will have to agree to disagree. Abrogation of seniority is wrong.. an it is a huge concession with each and every contract or side letter. Next real contract (if I live long enough to see one) If this and the current sick leave remain.. auto NO. I've had enough.

I agree with you. The problem is, and will be, the union never gives us a yes or no vote on individual issues. You can accept or reject the contract as a whole. DALPA knows this.
