Mesa is a "reactive" operation. There is no emphasis on staying ahead of the game. J.O. (CEO) has made it clear to the pilot group that the mere promise of a quick upgrade will bring u to his doorstep. There is no real push or incentive from upper management to do anything to get the numbers that they will need. There will certainly be no substantive budgetary amount given to anyone/anything. Hence you are seeing a major backlog of requests for contact, app status and hiring.
The company has slowed growth slightly and currently rests "fat" on captains. It is getting by with what it has on-line and currently in the pipeline. It will not "React" until some small amount or large amount of sh*t is seen hitting a fan. That's just how it's done at MAG.
There was a slow down as well due to lack of Sim space. As I have stated before, the current HR pilot team consists really of 2 guys with possible a "new hire" 3rd guy. One is mgmt. capt. and the other two are "line" f.o.'s .... Trust me, they're swamped. Mesa might get a tad bit more desperate as PSA/etc. ramp up hiring however as of right now, it's getting good numbers into class.
MAG Corp. consistently changes their staffing req. numbers. Again a complete "knee jerk" reaction to save a buck. That will eventually cost them more" long term"

Sim/ioe time is becoming a commodity. When you run classes every 3 weeks, any bottleneck in the training process effects the amount of slots the next class can accommodate. Not to mention the management numbers that ferrisbueler mentioned. I'm not an expert on hiring numbers at other companies, but are they pushing that many guys through? Last month was 27, and the class before that was 39.

Looks like new hires can hold every base except PHX and well, Hawaii, since that operation is being dwindled down to two planes.

Sulk, I'm sorry I have rubbed you the wrong way but "I" set myself up for this. This is not luck on my part, this was all planned.
I came to Mesa in the spring after doing a lot of research. I knew that Mesa would be hiring well into the foreseeable future therefore I would quickly move up the FO seniorirty list at a JR base. I knew the 170's were coming before I stepped foot onto Mesa property.
I moved to base so I wouldn't have to commute. I bid reserve so I get the days off I ask for.
I didn't come to mesa as a shot in the dark. I took the right steps so that 8 months ago I knew I would have a good QOL. I will not upgrade to the first available. I will decide on a base that I can comfortably move to, etc.
Sometimes I don't pity these guys complaining. Ok, so your purchased a house in rural Colorado and now your b*tching about commuting to CLT for reserve. These are choices YOU made, no one else. I understand bases close left and right in the regional world. That is why I have no plans of purchasing a house until I get (if i get to
) to a stable mainline carrier. And when I do it will be in a base that most likely won't close. IAD, ORD, DFW, NYC area, etc.
You really need to plan for this career if you want to do it comfortably.
