My problem is not with guys buying the efb, if you want one, knock yourself out. My problem is with the precedent that is being set here. If you want to work as an airline pilot, you now need to invest even more money. It should still be voluntary or provided by the company.
I thought there was a pilot shortage. When will pilots say enough is enough?

From: Square root of the variance and average of the variation
I opted to buy one at Envoy a couple of months ago (sorry, Mesa thread but relevant). I didn't even own an Ipad before I got hired. My problem is one of control. The company dictates the operating system and approves updates. Through the Microsoft Exchange email system (required) they can wipe the entire device to factory defaults at any time. I verified this with Apple and Microsoft.
This has happened when someone puts in a notice of resignation. It also happened to me through error (on an overnight). It cleans everything: cell service, photos, music, apps, documents, etc. Fortunately I had everything on the cloud. Wish I had been told this beforehand. It took three hours on a hotel wifi to restore it - including charts and manuals. So you bought it and technically "own" it but you never really have control over it.

Does anyone know if an Otterbox on the iPad will be incompatible with the gecko mount?
Also, I cannot seem to find the whole dual suction mount kit on Amazon. Anyone have a link? I see the mini, does anyone have an opinion as to which is better?

Crazy. I can't imagine allowing the company to gain that kind of control over an iPad that I own. Not sure how I'd react if Mesa implemented such a system. Fortunately they're too cheap to do so. Why not just cancel the Jepp subscription? What's the point of wiping the iPad? There's so much non-work and side-work related stuff on my iPad I'd have to buy another one for Jepps rather than risk my files.

Is anyone else not disturbed by this new development? Forcing a new hire to buy an iPad to get a job is bull. Once again Mesa management is leading the charge towards the race to the bottom. I sure hope you new guys know who you're dealing with and are going in with eyes wide open. The quick upgrade won't happen if they can't hire because of this.
On second thought: This can't even be legal. Is MAG MEC aware of this? How often do they speak with their lawyers? I don't see anything about this in the contract.

I agree it is BS that we should have to buy our own ipad for company use. Especially if the company is seeing long term cost savings from the switch... However, the fact that doing revisions is a thing of the past makes it completely worth it. Take it for what it's worth, but that's the truth.

You're forgetting the managements rights clause of the contract. Unless the contract addresses it, then management has the right to make any policy they want. Section 1F.
