I saw a post from somebody on facebook that Jeppesen announced at Oshkosh that they're discontinuing paper chart services at the end of the year or something like that, so Mesa would've had to switch everyone over anyway. Will be interesting to see how they force the holdouts to buy iPads.

They were short on paper manuals when I went through. I see they've solved this issue the Mesa way.

The Fat Gecko one is junk. I'm actually pretty miffed that they have required me to spend several hundred bucks to supply my own iPad (so they don't have to), then dictate that I use a mount which won't accommodate a protective case of any kind.

If the company had to supply us with iPads, you can bet they'd mandate that it be kept in an Otterbox or Lifeproof case to protect it, just as the Air Force does with its aircrew iPads.

There are good mount options out there, the company-approved mount is not one of them.
Nope. I wish we had ship-installed mounts like us airways. Those are solid instead of the plastic crap we use, and less wasted bag space.

I would wait to buy the mount until you have the welcome packet. There is a discount code in there you can use. The approved mounts are the Fat Gecko dual suction or single suction cup mounts. Checkout Marv Golden pilot supplies.

Just out of curiosity, why does a mount have to be approved?

It's a 121 carrier! Everything is tested and approved by the FAA and then subsequent becomes part of your opspecs.

Figured that much. Just wondering what the faa looks for when it comes to mount testing. The one that less likely to fall off?

I'm guessing it's something along the lines of the carrier saying "how about this one?", followed by ambiguous testing supervised by people with no real expertise on the matter whose positions exist solely to expend the FAAs allotted annual budget. Paperwork ensues.
