I received my SOI and faxed it back in on June 4. I got my first set of orders 26 days later on June 3. They were for me only. The family didn't get put on orders until I got the medical and educational clearance so each case will be different depending on how much stuff you have to do. Keep in mind that I was also the first OCONUS assignment and had an enroute TDY so my orders were a pain. Of course for the fliers you have to get AOs recertified as well. Another snag that I hit was my clearance. Since I was retired, my clearance was inactive in JPAS. A security officer had to request that my clearance info be unarchived. Now I have to go to the local MPF and have my seperation date changed to my new date 01 Aug 2012 and that will click my clearance back to active. It will only be a SECRET because I am past my 5 year investigation for the TS/SCI, so I have to re-do that. Hopefully the things I have experienced will help others through the process.

Looking for Details
I have called the recall ops folks and gotten the recording, stating you must e-mail. I have some specific questions for them in order to complete the application process, but so far, I haven't gotten a reply in two weeks.
Maybe some of you could help:
a. How long does it take them to answer an initial e-mail?
b. I would rather mail the package than fax it....anyone have the complete address, specifically, the room number? (I have all the rest).
Here's the two questions I e-mailed AFMPC:
The FAQs say you must include a DD214 and a retirement order.
1. I am a part-time Traditional Reservist, and I am applying to do this after I meet my Mandatory Separation Date (MSD). My admin folks tell me that I will technically not be "retired" after my MSD....rather, I enter "retirement limbo." My name will be on a retirement list, but I am technically not "retired" until I turn 60 and start receiving retirement pay.
As such I will not have retirement orders.
2. My admin tells me that TRs do not receive DD214s. (I was surprised at this...thought I would have my old active-duty DD214, and another when I retired from the Reserves).
So, my question is, what do I send...if anything?
Any info would be appreciated.

Try emailing CJ at [email protected]. DO NOT say I gave you his email address. He was very helpful and is very knowledgeable.

I would suggest trying to fax or e-mail your package directly to recall ops rather then snail mail. Mailing will just add more of a delay to your package. The process for me has been all electronic, all official info has been sent back and forth via e-mail. Yes I have spoken to people now and then when I called them however all messages have come via e-mail. They seem to process from first date of application so key is to get in line. For example I sent my package in on Mar 17 but did not get the medical until first part of April however they used Mar 17 as my App date. Calling is difficult due to the volume of folks calling I had some problems also. You may also try calling the general AF hotline number and they answered some of my general questions in the begining. You can also call that number once you submit your pacakge and they can check your status from a spread sheet. I can't help you on your DD214 question. Hope this helped some, bottom line send in your info if you are intrested and sort out whats missing later. Good Luck and hope this helped a little.

I sent Recall Ops about a half-dozen emails with various questions. I got a reply to only one, and it didn't even answer the question I asked.
I'm with cficpilot on this one. I'd recommend faxing it in, then letting them tell you what you're missing. When I submitted my package, I got an email confirmation that they'd received it, and it said they'd contact me if additional documentation was required.
Even so, here's the address. It's on my SOI and on the letter telling the local clinic to give me a physical:
HQ AFPC/DPSIP
550 C Street West, Ste 10
Randolph AFB, TX 78150-4712
Sorry, but I can't help with the DD-214 stuff, either.

Anyone else get offered a staff job when they applied, passed the physical, and were looking for a flying job? I was advised there was a policy change. Only those less than 8 years out of a military cockpit were eligible for a flying assignment. Currently requesting a review of the policy which effectively eliminated me from the cockpit.
I work for a major American airline and have no trouble getting a military leave of absence for just about any amount of time I need for military duties.

Someone several posts back stated the same thing about 8 years. Of the folks that I know that have gone back to flying (myself included) were out less than 2 years. The big hurdle is lack of training slots, I think most airframes if you are out more than 5 years you need to go through intial training all over again. What ever the situation I wish you luck in the process.

Just received the SOI via e-mail 7/22 (pending medical clearance). Sent in app late April. How long has it been taking for people to get their orders after sending in the SOI? I'm going to the 603rd AOC in Ramstein.
