It's a simple matter of supply and demand, the program is about the national defense, not a flying program for individuals. As long as they have sufficient numbers of qualified volunteers who meet the requirements as they exist, they have no need to change the rules.

T38Phlyer,

Yes I had the same question about the DD214, you don't get one when you retire from the Reserves, only when you've completed an active duty tour. I would still send the AF whatever DD214's you had. You state that you had no retirement orders? If you retired from the AF Reserves they should have issued you one. I had one titled a "Reserve Order" that stated I was "relieved from current assignment, assigned to the retired reserve section and placed on the USAF reserve retired list..." Later it states "Eligible for retired pay under 10 USC 12731, except for attainment of age 60."

I hope this helps. Best of luck!

I'm just trying to get back as a regular IMA, started October 2008, and my complete package has been in the hopper since January. The RMG geeks had to go ask if there were any takers for my slot, after 20 said no, I'm hoping to see some movement.

Anyone have any luck going to a specific flying unit they requested? Like "I want to go fly for XXXth ALS or FS or SOS and then getting what they wanted? I've been out of my particular airframe for a little over a year and am thinking of trying to go back to my old squadron. I'm seeing alot of AOC/Staff type stuff, just wondering if anyone is having luck in the Ops world.

Sorry if it's already been answered, but this thread is gettin' pretty long....

Deuce130,

I requested aircraft and base of choice and got it. However, I had only been out less than a year, had the OG/CC by name request me to AFPC, and had the functional assignments officer at AFPC recommend me for the assignment when I met the board.
I highly recommend you get the current OG/CC and SQ/CC at the base you want to return to fly at grease the skids ahead of time with AFPC by having them specifically request you return to their unit. After they send the request, THEN call AFPC and talk with the C-130 assignments officer and get him to support your request with the backing of the OG/CC.
Best wishes! PM me if you want more information on the process that I saw.

I also received what I wanted for the most part. I was retired less than a year and as such all my dates were pretty much still valid. Actually even my checkride is just now expiring. I did not have the OG or CC grease the skids but I also think it was easy for AFPC in my case. Did not need to move, most of my training dates were still good, and they always seem to need IP's in the -135 with my background. I did ask for the VIP unit first, never flew that airframe so tech. I did not get my first choice but did get what and where I asked for. It boils down to 2 things. How long have you been out of the military cockpit and how much training will you need to get up to speed. Formal course's at the school house are hard to come by so if they can do all your training at the unit its pretty ease for them. Submit your package and list exactly what you want, you really have nothing to lose except time. Good Luck

Default Still waiting on an SOI...

I am a current reservist who put in for the limited return to AD program back in late April. I've got 3.5 years to go for that big AD retirment! I know they have been really busy, but I have been less than impressed with the recall team so far. I've never gotten any good follow up E-mails from them, and had to prod them twice in the past month to send my package to assignments, and then again to "the board". I supposedly have my first choice of staying here at CHS in the C-17, and only know that because I asked--I never received any notification of my assignment or that it was board pending. Now they say it has been "at the board" since last Wednesday (7/29). Any idea on how long this board process might be? They said it could take as little as 3 days now since it crosses a few O-6 desks instead of meeting a bi-weekly formal board. I'm trying to be patient, but...

Thanks

I got an email from assignments (I started this process on 1 May). As I expected, from what I heard here, I've been out of flying too long to be offered a cockpit. UAV's are still an option but there is a waiting list. They could get me an AOC staff job now or I could wait until Spring/Summer for a UAV slot. I'm worried this program could be terminated by then. Wasn't it only authorized until the end of 2009? I'm going to call him tomorrow and see what kind of guarantee there is I could get a spot that far out. If not, maybe I could do a year in an AOC in the desert with a guarantee of a UAV on return? Anyone hear of anyone doing something similar or see any obvious flaws in my thinking?

Hey turtle, I agree with you that they're not exactly on the ball up at Recall Ops. I do know that at least one of them is on leave, and there weren't that many of them to begin with. I got my SOI almost a month ago, and still no orders. I know for a fact that at least 2 emails they've sent me "didn't go through." It's not my system that's eating them, so did they typo the address or is the AF email system filtering outbound emails, too? And their voice mail box is full, so you can't even leave a message.

My package was sent to the panel on 6 Jul, and I got my SOI on the 11th. Then I got an email on the 27th saying that I needed to submit a bunch of documents for revalidation of my aeronautical orders. Some of those were documents that I'd submitted with my application, but others weren't. Worst was that the email said they had sent me an email the week before that "apparently did not go through." My package then got expedited at USAFE, but is now at AF and then still needs to go to AFPC to sit in someone else's inbox. I'm doubtful that I'll make a 15 Sep RNLTD to Ramstein at this rate.

I asked Recall Ops for a checklist or an FAQ for what needs to be done after the SOI is signed. They pointed out that they have an FAQ. Obviously they haven't read it, since it's all about how to apply, not what happens afterwards. We've all PCSed, but I'm betting not a one of us have ever returned to active duty from civilian life - except you Reservists, and even then, you have a unit to assist and guide you. AFPC is our orderly room, and like in the squadrons now, there's no one home.

I'd bet you hear something later this week or early next. Best of luck,
Kikuchiyo.

Let me second, third, fourth, or whatever it is now up, the recall office message system and email return system sucks. I can't get one question answered correctly from the AFPC folks, and my other questions remained unanswered from recall...rrr

For the experts (APC forum users), here are a few questions. If you have the time to answer them, and think they would be valuable to everyone, post away. If not, I'll be happy with a PM and beer is on me for your time!

If someone was to do the VOLUNTARY PERMANENT RATED
RECALL TO PROGRAM (VPRRRP), my understanding is you sign a 2 year ADSC.

1. Thus, if they were to try and send you somewhere crazy or you didn't want to go after your first assignment, you would have the option to separate. Does that sound right?

For both the limited and permanent recall programs, it sounds like you are able to put your preferences for assignments in your approval package. If they give you those choices is another matter.

1) Is there a place to go and try to see what assignments are possible? (For example, if I wanted staff at a particular base, where could I see what staff positions were available) Same thing goes if I wanted to try an AETC tour; where can I go to see if that base and plane were even an option?

2) Just so I understand the message 100%, at any point thru the process, up and until you sign your orders, you can pull it? So you can put your assignment preferences request, and if they don't give you something you want, there is no obligation? That is my understanding as it stands and the only way I apply.

Thanks in advance to anyone in the know for your time! If I missed something previously posted on the 46 pages, my apologies as well!

Default So When are they adding the bonus?

OK, so now that there is a Permanent Recall, any bets on when they will up the offer to Permanent recall with the Bonus? I might consider hoping back in for that one! Best of luck to all who are attempting to rejoin the active duty machine...
