(Re)applying
I am a former NJA F/O (XLS) and would have been furloughed but took advantage of the voluntary measures and instead took the buyout. I am now considering applying again and have been watching this thread pretty closely. Obviously it is not the company I left, nor are they the working conditions that I left. It sounds like the variety of flying and lack of commuting that I previously enjoyed are still there, though some of the good deals may no longer be.
One question for those that have been recalled or recently hired - the confirmation e-mail seems to indicate the position is coded as a 7/7. Is the 18 day fixed also a possibility here, at least as much as the bid will allow, or is it going senior enough that it isn't a concern? How about the 15 day flex?
Also, for those that have a Signature at your base, do they still have an agreement to park there while at work? I realize my information is over a half decade old - in some ways I feel like I just woke up from a Fractional coma.
Great info on this thread - good to see things turning around. I hope the company can someday become again what it once was.

Dude.....dude....are you seriously using our union forum as your source? What is the percentage of active pilots who participate in those boards? Answer the question......
That forum is on par with Flightinfo.......and you take part in it?

Do you even visit the NJASAP boards? Seriously, spend 20 minutes reading up on some recent threads and you will see just how dissatisfied most of us are. They are my opinion, but they are well shared by most.
Here is more proof. I don't know a single person who left the 121 world of the legacies/majors (not mentioning retirees obviously) to come to NJA. I do know of over 60 last year alone who made the opposite move and seem quite content with it.
Speaking of polls, I hope you are engaged in this fight and participated in the latest bargaining survey and managed to find some improvements you would like to see enacted.
Peace out.

It seems you don't even participate on our boards. Did u even participate in the bylaws vote or the bargaining survey? Did u contribute to the hostage fund, or the PAC? I doubt it. Congratulations on being a disengaged Union member who will let all the others do the heavy lifting while u hide behind your little anonymous avatar on these boards spouting how awesome your job is. I guess we won't be seeing you at any pickets anytime soon.
I'm done discussing this with you as I don't frequent these boards often and most readers seem to understand the point that I was making: that NJA is a mediocre career destination.

fischman,
You will initially be place on the 18 day training schedule. After that, it all depends on seniority to maintain it during the open bid but it tends to be all over the place . The 15 day is super senior and as an 8 year FO, I can't hold it in my fleet.
As far as parking goes, we have lost many Signature contracts over the last few years in some markets but the new preferred FBOs should provide parking for you at those locations.
Welcome back!
Oh, and one big disclaimer for those looking to come to NJA as new hires. You will not be granted HBA rights and will unfortunately be placed under the domicile system of 100 bases (instead of the 222 HBAs). This is due to the LOA that was signed back in 2011 that applied only to those pilots on the seniority system. Most of us are looking for universal basing and do away with the b scale tier but it will take until the next contract to get that resolved....

The 2005 agreement closed home basing for future pilots and opened 5 domiciles. NJA wasn't getting as many applicants as it thought it should and during the IBB it opened up 100 airports as bases for those of us who were hired after home basing went away (those on property before were grandfathered).
A LOA was signed in 2012? opening up home basing to all pilots currently on the seniority list. Newhires will still be on the 100 domicile list. If you live in or near one of them, it doesn't mean much. If you live near an airport that is not on the list, it is quite frustrating.
For every tour I used to drive by my home airport on the way to or from my domicile. It was really awesome when I was paired up with another pilot who qualified for the HBA system and used my home airport as a base when I couldn't. That's what you've seen referred to as the B scale as far as NJA is concerned.

Survey: Promoting FO's to Captains
Dear colleagues,
I hope you are doing well.
I am asking your attention for the following.
I am currently writing a thesis for an MSc in Air Transport Management at the City University in London.
Could you please help me by filling out a short survey and send the survey-link below to your (professional) pilot-colleagues?
The target group of this survey is: professional pilots.
This survey supports an MSc study into promotions of First Officers to Captains in the aviation industry. The study contains a research into alternative promotion methods for seniority (only) based promotion systems.
The survey can be accessed via the following link:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/promotingpilots
Filling in the survey will take only 5-10 minutes of your time.
I thank you in advance for your cooperation, your help is much appreciated.
With kind regards,
Olle van Zweden
