Just finished XL and company recurrent. Training with the older guys is a mixed bag. My sim partner this go around was a 60+ that is universally disliked in the airplane for his crusty ways. Having flown two tours over the years with him, he knows procedures off the charts well, but just not a fun 7 days. I was shocked how sharp and well he was in the sim. It was hands down the best recurrent i've had (anywhere). The sim group before us was a 60+ captain paired with a friend. I couldn't believe what I was hearing about the senior captain. He said he's hanging on for dear life until the vsp comes out. Extra time during each sim got him through training, but it wasn't pretty according to my friend and their instructor. How do you spend ten plus years in an xl and struggle so bad in training?!?!?! Age gets us all, and fortunately for the above two, they realize their time is almost up. I can't say the same for many of the old farts I fly with. The usual response I get is "how can I give up a part time country club gig like this". As a 9 year fo I am now accepting my fate. I will not give up trying to leave, but I will not upgrade for a loooooooong looooooooong time. Apply here with with eyes wide open. If upgrades were even remotely on the horizon, I, along with most other SIC's would be content. Good luck to all wanting to work here!

It'll happen. Sales are strong and everything we take from OEMs is sold out. FACT.

If you know of a way to increase production of frames, please do share!

Our ebb and flow is independent of airline hiring and upgrades. That comes with pros and cons.
I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just stating the fact that people who are interested in NJs are interested in upgrade timeframes based off of growth, not a small handful that are contractually mandated.

Would be a shame to go for what appeared to be a better deal and get a handful of Age 70 retirement age and NAI instead.

Guys gotta do what a guys gotta do.

Age 70 would still be an improvement over what NJA has.

But not at the Bigs.

Another 5 years of the music stopping.

Hope you like your view. It won't change for 60 months.

The view at NJA hasn't changed for many in the last decade. Though I suppose getting an unpaid vacation for four years technically counts as a change. Five years is chump change, comparatively.

The view hasn't changed for MOST in almost every cockpit for 15.

Things start moving but not all at once.

It makes the business... Interesting.

Until anyone can tell me with any actual degree of certainty what will happen tomorrow/next week/next month/next year, it's nothing more than a guessing game.

I understand being an FO for 10 years sucks. 8 years,2 regionals, 3 furloughs and 0 upgrades for me. And what's really funny is everyone I knew was clamoring for me to go where I did because the upgrade was less than a year. Well, that obviously didn't work out.

Some may be right, and the upgrades could take 30 years. I personally don't think so, but that's my call to make. I've got a lot of empathy for the 495 here as I've eaten from that end of the trough myself. But I'm tired of having people tell me what I should be doing, expecting me to eat from their hand when I counter and am told that I'm 100% wrong.

If you want to go 121, I wish every last one of you nothing but the best. I've been there, done that. Commuting to reserve is borderline inhumane and I've had my fill. Going to LGA, ORD, ATL or DFW every other leg isn't my cup of tea either. Bottom line, those of us that are happy and content being at NJA respect anyone's decision to leave. All I'm looking for is those that want to bail extending the same courtesy.
