Ameriflight Open House

Thinking of taking the plunge at Amflight and had a few questions:

What are the crew apartments in the outstations like? Do they have Wifi?

Is it possible to get unpaid time off in the first year (before you accrue paid vacation)? I have a week in August that I'm hoping to get off for a family deal.

My total time is around 1700, exceed all the other 135 reqs, sharp on instruments but I only have around 80 hrs night and 40 hrs multi. I just talked to an Amflight pilot who said send in my resume anyway and they will probably get me the necessary hours in training, what do you guys think about this?

Definitely, send it in. Or, if you are anywhere near Dallas this weekend, swing by the open house at the Hyatt in Grapevine.

To answer your questions, depending on the run your get your layover may be at the base and you will live at the outstation. And if your layover actually IS an apartment, you probably won't have Wifi there. Some locations use a hotel as the layover (particularly if there is only one pilot and it is only used 3 or 4 days per week) and then you would have Wifi available.

As for time off, you definitely wouldn't have any vacation time accrued by August (you start accruing vacation time after 90 days from your check ride.) Policy allows for 2 unpaid days off per month, schedule permitting. "Schedule permitting" is the big driving factor since unpaid time off still needs to be covered and that usually involves travel and hotel costs. Also, the 2 days per month don't accrue so you can't add June, July and August unpaid days together to get a full week.

One thing I learned years ago. When you go to a new job, plan on focusing solely on the job for at least the first year and don't plan for any long time off. That's just reality.

Sounds like the sim eval is no longer needed, you guys must really be hurting for new bodies.

I don't think the word "signing" was on the ad.

Here's my math, you get the 2000 as a type rated captain, and the 10 percent bonus at the end of your first year. Refer a friend, and get another bonus.

If there's anything else that helps you get to that 7500 figure, I'd be interested to know.
