An autopilot can be used in lieu of a first officer.

How does the right seat pilot log time between 500 and 1500 hours? Is the captain wearing ray ban foggles?[/QUOTE]

61.51
(f) Logging second-in-command flight time. A person may log second-in-command time only for that flight time during which that person:

(1) Is qualified in accordance with the second-in-command requirements of §61.55 of this part, and occupies a crewmember station in an aircraft that requires more than one pilot by the aircraft's type certificate; or

(2) Holds the appropriate category, class, and instrument rating (if an instrument rating is required for the flight) for the aircraft being flown, and more than one pilot is required under the type certification of the aircraft or the regulations under which the flight is being conducted.

Because he is a required crew under the regulations under which the flight is conducted.

135.101 Except as provided in §135.105, no person may operate an aircraft carrying passengers under IFR unless there is a second in command in the aircraft.

CapeAir could apply for the exception under 135.105 but it looks like they have chosen not to.

I read that cape air has a good relationship with JetBlue. Do pilots ever get experience at cape air and then get hired at jetBlue without working for another airline in between?

A guy in my class right now spent about 4 years at Cape before being hired at JB. Only airline.

Default Just Hired

Got my offer letter yesterday. It took about a week from interview to receive it. They are not sure when the class date is. The letter says Fall 2018, I was told 1st or 2nd week of October. No summer classes in the summer because all planes and instructors are flying. After a few offers from others, decided Cape Air was it for me. Look forward to hearing from anyone else hired for the same class.
Was hired on as FO with 1002TT and 40 Multi.

Out of curiosity, what was it with Cape that made you decide you'll wait for a class date for 5 months?

It's not unheard of for many places to shut down the training department for "peak" when possible. It's a bit if a deal with the devil, but I remember even Air Wisconsin did it regularly from Thanksgiving through Christmas...
Likewise many 135 freight operators shut down training/hiring for the same period....it's a way to get all planes and employees flying the line making $$$ when the "peak" hits. Training during this period takes multiple instructors and planes, not the mention check airman off flying the line.
Was actually amazed to get a December class date at one company....but in that case it was due to the fact that the training staff there operated somewhat separately from the line, and simulator time was more of a factor.

I will be in the fall class as well. Looks like there will be about 15-20 pilots in the class so it will be good for group study opportunities.
