The hiring with Jet Blue is no guarantee whatsoever. Interview only. However if the economy is doing well, then yes you will get hired with Jet Blue with no turbine time.

Edit... March 15th...

Classes depend on the number of pilots who don't return from the Carib this winter. There are always some. How many is anyone's guess. I was told there is a pool with a dozen plus swimmers and 'they' are looking to get another ten to a dozen poolies.
Thanks for the info rob. I suppose May 15 would be a decent guess for more info on the returnees, as that's the next bid right? As for what 'they' are looking for, are you hearing 10-12 in addition to the dozen or so already swimming? That would be superb...

Here's to hoping people decide to stay in the Carib

Is it common that many will stay south at the end of the "season"?

Some do, yeah. Last winter a couple guys left for other gigs so they could stay down there. Some simply quit, not wanting to go back up north (Cape requires a 6 month commitment if you come in with an ATP). I know a couple other guys who went part-time to avoid going north as well. I'm not sure how many people in total won't transition, but I'd imagine right now that most will go north to keep their jobs.

Staying south is becoming more and more difficult from what I'm told. Lines get chopped in the Caribbean over the summer, which forces a lot of pilots back up north. They chopped pretty deep this last year. The company has been running very lean staffing models because of the EAS expansion, so the Caribbean has been seeing a lot less staffing than years past.

Strangely enough, the Caribbean went very senior this last winter. It used to be that you didn't usually have much of a choice in the matter; I know when I first got hired in Fall 2008, there was no question where I was going. Now with the rampant EAS expansion, junior pilots can generally expect ALB or STL outstation bases (OGS, MSS, ART, UIN, MWA, CGI). In fact, the most junior pilot in SJU is a 12/2008 hire. The most junior captain in the Caribbean period upgraded in 05/2009.

Mini, I've told ya...If you're really interested, send me a resume and I'll send it to the right people. Can't guarantee anything, but it could help.

I had lunch with mini once. If you want to come on out and spring for lunch, I could be persuaded, haha.

I'll be getting my stuff together when I get home this weekend. Today put me over the edge.

If I didn't feel bad for the pax depending on the trip tomorrow, I'd rent a car and drive home right now (an hour or so drive). But I can't leave 6 really nice, good people depending on getting to where they need to go.

I just don't know why it's hard for people to realize that we don't fly by committee. When I say we're not going........that's it. And that's the end of the discussion. It doesn't continue for 8 hours.

So, yeah...I'll be taking you up on that offer probably early next week.
