How often does the company hire pilots? Is it a one or two times a year deal or more often than that. I'd like to eventually get on with Cape Air, but with the position I'm in now I'd have to time my exit correctly to get out in a beneficial situation.

We're almost always hiring. get your stuff in, interview, get a job offer and then worry about when you want to accept a class date. HR is pretty good about working with you.

I'd love to do it today, but due to my current employment situation and a training contract, I simply can't afford to break the training contract. At some point in the future, I'll throw my stuff in the mix, but at this point, it's just a plan for down the road.

Thanks for the info

I dream of retiring to ACK and flying for Cape Air (in 30 years). Does anyone do that?

Yes. Yes, they do.

I left before the contract with the IBT was done, so I don't know what restrictions they have now, but in the past Cape has had a 1 year full time commitment, then you could fly part time or on call. There weren't year-round ACK based pilots, but HYA and other domiciles had retired major airline pilots, both as full timers and on call.

Nothing has really changed restriction wise. If you already have your ATP, then they expect you to give them 6 months full time, then you can try for part time after that. Those are approved or denied on a case by case basis, and it's really up to the company, not a lot of language concerning part timers in the contract. And we do have I think 2 year round slots in ACK, or you could get HYA, which is more likely, and you'd either end up doing island flying or ACK-BOS flying. But if you want to retire here, you should have no problems, we have plenty of guys here who have done that.

Hi guys -

New to the site as a member but I've reading for awhile now...I really enjoy reading what everyone has to say its a great forum.

Anyway, I've got an interview with Cape coming up June 20th and was wondering if anyone else on here was scheduled that day too? That being said, I haven't seen a whole lot of information on some recent interview experiences there and was wondering if anyone had anything relevant to say about it.

Any information would be awesome, thank you!

The gouges you can find online are all still correct. Its almost all a getting to know you type interview. TMAAT questions and customer service based questions. Just be yourself. There is no sim ride and I wouldn't expect more than 1 or 2 technical questions.

Good luck!!!

Only one or two tech questions? No sim? Is Bently getting soft? Surely it hasn't changed that much. I think I had a 20-odd question fill in the blank written, along with a basic attitude instrument sim eval.
You will want to be able to discuss the airplane you're now flying, have a solid understanding of winter weather hazards, their recognition and avoidance. And be familiar with the characteristics of a tail stall and its recovery technique.
