Five years ago and longer he would have been 100 percent correct.

How many hours can a junior cape air pilot (C-402 CA) log in one year on average?

Totally depends on where you fly. If you are based in the EAS outstations like I was, you'll probably log between 75 and 85 hours a month. If you are based on the Cape or somewhere with shorter legs (30 minutes or less), I think you'll log more like 50-60 hours a month. My first year I logged 869 hours (most of it in RUT), my second I logged 661 (most of it in EWB).

If your are PIC qualified (>1200 hours) will they also use you as an FO ?

If so, are you paid the PIC rate or the FO rate when flying as an FO?

If you are pic qualified you get the pic rate regardless of seat you are in. Pic qualified fo's can repo planes and fly cargo/mail from left side. The majority of the pic qualified fo's fly as first officers till atp mins. The company is pretty good at upgrading people once they meet the minimums.

What are first-year captains averaging for annual gross pay?

Yes PICs will primarily do mail and freight, but you will also be used as an FO at times.

You will be paid your PIC rate no matter if you are acting as an FO or not.

Huh, I did $47k my first year flying ~700 hours in 2008. Of course, that was with 5 months of Caribbean override. Probably helped. That's gone now, right?
