For the OP go to the airline which has a base you'd be able to get into that has the shortest commute with the most flights. Nothing else matters if you spend all your off days getting to and from work.
The guys with the long range commutes were hired back when most pilots accepted their only offer.

He was joking about it being Transportation Security Administration. Which was funny. You missed it, because your so hung up on establishing a pecking order.

Also, in other news, I admitted that PSA would be a better choice for every situation except the one where you live in base. How is that me trying to establish a pecking order?

Lol no. I was hired in 7/2015 and when I left in October, there were over 100 ahead of me to upgrade. At that time they were not upgrading anyone. Now they're doing five-six a month as the contract requires when they hire CQFOs. Upgrade at tsa is definitely not six to eight months. For someone hired today, it's no less then three years unless there is a drastic change. Ask those hired there before me and with me that haven't upgraded yet.
The retention and newhire bonuses seem to be working at least some. If anything, it has stemmed the hemorrhaging of FOs we were experiencing last fall. That combined with some good attrition of captains to majors and doing a little better on the hiring front has brought upgrade to a reasonable time frame.
Things seem to be looking up some at TSA. With that being said, if I were doing it all over I'd probably go somewhere to fly 170s. They have better QOL with the longer legs, and a future longer than these 50 seats.

Okay...so if you don't care what plane you fly and you live in DFW, the question has to be asked why the hell would you want to commute across the country and not go to Envoy? Unless we're talking bottom of the barrel regionals like GoJets or Mesa, I'd never recommend not working at an airline where you can drive to work. If you live in CLT, hands down PSA. If you live in DFW, hands down Envoy.
I'm dfw and work for PSA.. it's not bad plus the SAP I'm home half the month.

I almost pulled the trigger to leave TSA for PDT or Envoy last November- December. I was sure that upgrade was still 18+ months out. I ended up deciding to give until 31 Jan to make a decision. I'm glad I waited. Now I'm upgrading. Upgrade is sitting at 2 years and 3 months at the moment and seemingly dropping a little. That can always change quickly....

Never have missed a commute to clt via dfw. Don't know about DCA but it's a pain in the ass airport to get between terminals if your flight ends and you want to commute home on a tight connection.

Don't go to PSA. I'm not gonna rant about them here. Just don't go there. Reserve rules are garbage, management, and flow is realistically 16+ years for a new hire. Not even close to going from 5 to 6 flowing. We're actually negative captains. We would be at 4 if the language didn't protect a lesser number. To name a few..

I'm in the same boat as you being a DFW guy. I'm leaning toward PSA, and I'm an avid anti-commuter. I used to commute from DFW-IAH a few years ago and I swore that I'd never do it again. Why? The lines I typically had were 4 days on 2 days off which means if I missed a commute on the last day I only have about a day and a half off before my next 4 day adventure. At the time it was all weight restricted 145's and 135's. Screw that. I ended up renting a car half the time simply to get home.
Envoy has similar schedules to Mesa. Low productivity trips, and to me it doesn't matter if I live 5 mins from DFW it still sucks if I only have 12 days off. Gone is Gone.
If you were to commute to DCA you'd have 9 direct flights a day on 5 737 and 4 Airbuses with two jumpseats with AA non rev bennies and jumpseat rules. If you were to go the CLT route you'd have 10 direct flights on almost exclusively A320's.
Combine that with being able to SAP down to 15-18 days off a month makes it a worthwhile bitter pill to swallow if you don't want to go the Envoy route.
Just food for thought.

Clt - dfw is easy money. You can also always trade out of trips that end late so you can commute home. Plus the 250 for hotels if you want to not risk being there that next day. Bunch of good 35-50 dollar rooms near CLT apt.
