Hello.. long time lurker, first time poster
Should be nearing my ATP mins here in the next few weeks. My question pertains to bonuses, sap, and moving on to the majors.
Do you have to pay the bonus back if you leave early or is if yours to keep even when a major calls within the first year?
I'm excited to fly jets but I'll be honest, I could not be less excited to be flying for a regional so I'm looking for one that is the best of the worst- im told sap makes this phase a bit better. Can I sap down to almost no work whatsoever? Are there any sap restrictions?
My next question pertains to the flow and moving on to the majors. I'm excited to be an American Airlines pilot flying psa planes but how do I speed up my flow time to bid for either the 777 or a330? Would I have to apply outside of the flow to do this? In today's hiring climate and need at the majors, I assume that I will be at psa for a year tops, 2 at the worst case scenario... but does coming from an AA wholy owned give me an advantage at delta or untied since they'd be stealing aa pilots?
Thanks for the replies, ready to reach this next stepping stone, and move on quickly.

No flow back though, but given the retirements a furlough would be highly unlikely anyway.

Not trolling..I'm new to 121 world. I'm going off of the current hiring environment and the outlook. Please provide helpful information and resist the urge to be immature regional pilots. I'm asking professional advice and expect professional answers. Thanks.

You'll be required to pay the bonus all back until after a year. Then it is prorated for the next year. You can opt out of the bonus. No one will force you to take it.

Thanks for the info. I guess I was unclear about that. Is it ringing true they are hiring many many guys brand new like me without experience to avoid those that are over qualified?
What is the fastest way to get to a major? I really want to skip the entire non-glamourous regional phase. May be for some but I don't think it's for me.

As another poster stated, you are a PSA pilot flying PSA planes. Even your wings are markedly different from mainline and you'll be asked (or should be asked) by mainline AA drivers why you're wearing FA wings as a pilot. The similarities don't even extend to the uniform. Don't be fooled. You are NOT mainline. Not even close. If AA was the AF, PSA is the CAP. I don't see any other regional as inferior to us. In fact, given PSA's history a bit of humility goes a long way. You'll bear some of that burden if you work here.
