I Love PSA

Where did you see this "future" flying? I have not been able to find that. The only thing I can think of is that PDT is going to lose 7 more planes to bring it to a total of 11 planes. However, many may disagree with me here, if we do get all our recalls back I would hope we take on ALL PDT pilots who get furloughed before we bring in anyone from a pool or what not. Now dont get me wrong, I want things to happen and all who are swimming to have a job. But I dont want our sister pilots at PDT to be without jobs and us GAIN flying and all of our pilots back at their expense. In addition if MESA does tank who knows what will happen. But you can guarantee AWAC/RAH would pick up a lot of that slack IF something did happen with that.
My bad, it says future positions. Here's the link that I was referring to. Interesting.

I've heard no more recalls due to the normal fall reduction in flying. Thats it, total stagnation here like everywhere else.

Reserves I know are flying over garentee by quite a few, some close to 90 hours. Most I know are flying 5 days a week and in some cases being Jr manned into 6. However i think PSA is running dangerously low trying to skim through the summer so they don't have to furlough in the fall with the reduced schedule. (I believe there is a small outside chance of a small class for the winter, but don't count on it). The rumor I heard was there was a class that was ready for the noticed to besent out but MGT decided they could make it through summer without them. Sorry to those who are still out there. Hold out, do what you can, you are not forgotten.

I wouldnt think ther would be as much of fall reduction as the past with PDT loosing airplanes and the rest of the exprees system having to handle the flying. Hopefully they do run a small class in the winter its time to bring everyone back and start hiring again next summer. Wonder how many of those furloughed pilots said the heck with it and went on with other things.
There have been a lot of talks about captain upgrades too. Reason they did decide to not upgrade were as Jon mentioned, by the time they pull them out of the system this summer and had them in the left seat the summer flying would be done. And as we are we were understaffed and could not go through summer with FO's being pulled out of the system to be upgraded. We just simply did not have the FO's to cover that. However with the fall reduction we can now take the FO's out of the system and upgrade them without having a difficult time covering flights.
One thing to also keep in mind, yes fall brings reductions. But fall also brings VACATIONS. I would venture to say that nearly 70% of vacations occur between the months of September and March. And if you are senior and or lucky you might be able to pull a summer vacation off.
In the end, like Jon said we are understaffed at the moment. However if the company can continue to run thin they will. However the fact of the matter is breaking guaratnee means NOTHING. Its all about coverage. If I only fly 50 hours but am used for hot reserve 4 days of the month and am on an over night the rest, that's one less Fo they can use. And thus we currently lack that coverage right now. And perhaps this fall we will be more properly staffed and have that coverage. But I HIGHLY doubt it.
So by no means do I think we need 50 pilots back. But some indeed would be nice and we shall sit back and see what happens....

I agree with what paul has stated in pretty much his whole post above. I can't say about what the reserves are doing in dayton like he can being based there, all i can say is what i see in my base. He also may have a different prospective being a few numbers above me on the seniority list and being in the recall just class before me, i am not sure.
But I would love for Paul to speak out to the furloughed pilots about his views on Fee For Departure. Becuase i know they are not hearing alot about it, not being in the loop and all. Maybe he can tell the furloughed guys about how FFD would alow other pilot groups to integrate onto a pilot list pushing the junior guys down even farther. Maybe even causing them to remain furloughed for years longer. But I don't have all the information like paul does but I am sure he will be able to answer any of the questions you have about the program seeing as Paul has a more bit of information about it.

I could speak about the Fee For Depature if you would like, however I do not see where that's relative to anything with furloughed guys. As of right now the FFD concept is just that a concept that is on a blank piece of paper with nothing to support and or back it up. There is a general push right now to get all the regional carriers under the USairways side to agree to a program that would be called an FFD program. This program would prevent our management to allow us to undercut our ALPA brothers and sisters. It would keep all pilots, current and furloughed, protected if their company is to lose planes due to another carrier pilot group accepting planes. At the end of the day, the fee for depature program is a program that as a person low on a seniority list I would be in favor of.
There is absolutely no way for the regional carriers to make a better living if we continued to undercut each other. However that is the key. FFD has nothing to do with a carrier going under due to Chap 11 etc. It only has to do with carriers whom have planes pulled from them for refusing to fly them for less. And in that case, if we at PSA were told we either fly the CRJ900 for our 200 rates or else we lose the CRJ900's and also some of our current fleet our pilots would have the ability to keep an aviation job. Management would not be allowed to force a plane on a pilot group with the fear of taking jobs away if that plane is not accepted. And thus in the above situation, if we at PSA refuse to fly the planes but AWAC does for the lesser rate. The net gain of planes by AWAC would mean those pilots whom have lost their jobs at PSA would keep their longevity and also DOH on AWAC property. Like wise if the case is reversed. At the end of the day there are too many questions yet to be resolved and or answered. In addition we do not even know what other airlines are in favor of this program. Right now it appears all carriers under the Airways system and whom are represented by ALPA are. However getting the RAH guys and IBT on board with this would be key.
Again though, I do not understand how this is really realtive to this thread? I am in favor of improving our standard of living, our career outlook and I am strongly in favor of stopping the undercutting that goes on in the industry. So I guess for that I am in the wrong for supporting a program that very well COULD help prevent such things from occuring?
In closing also anyone whom is unaware about the FFD program and is a current PSA pilot, regarldess of status, they should log into our ALPA website at www.psapilots.com/forum and they will be able to make their own decisions on such issues. And if you do not have an ALPA number through PSA I would be more then glad to assist you with getting that and in touch with the right people to allow you to log into our company forum. PM me for details if you need assistance.

This thread was started as a place for people to post about anything PSA not just what you think is relevant at the time. However, I would think that any proposal no matter how early it is in the development stages that has the potential to limit the number of furloughes brought back to the home company in order to save the necks of pilots who do not work for said company would be a matter that would be interesting to anyone on the street right now. Just remember WE are both down near the bottom of the list and would be the first ones BACK out the door should something happen. Why don't we worry about the things we need to HERE before we start fixing the shattered industry.
I would also love to know why Fee For departure was picked as the name of this proposal seeing as only half of the companies you say will so called bennifit from it are even fee for departure carriers.
"FFD concept is just that a concept that is on a blank piece of paper with nothing to support and or back it up."
Your not the first one i have heard spout this. How can something be a concept on a blank piece of paper? With the amount of time this idea has been floating around there is more behind it than just a few guys talking over coffee.
