Hoping so, at least for the new prospects like myself.

It may seem overly optimistic, but with all of the hiring going on, there should be decent attrition at all of the regionals.

It doesn't work like that. Anyone who is 50 still has 15 years left. Companies are more likely to hire older guys now because there is no more company pensions for them to suck down after only paying in for a shot while. The main reason guys never left before was lack of opportunity not like of desire. Anyone who is "older" at PSA still has very little seniority compared to the airline they "stayed" at from being hired in the 20's.

Remember the guys who choose a career at a regional planed on retiring in top 5% of seniority list making $90-110 dollars per hour and got burned out of that. That's a long way from year 2 PSA Captain at $65 in bottom half of seniority. Mainline offers 2 legs a day stuffing your retirement to the max, retiring at $150-$200 dollars per hour.

Are you including the FOs that washout of training?

Less than 6 captains a month are leaving on average. Most of the attrition is from FOs that have less than a year of seniority.

All the other regionals have higher attrition rates for captains and senior FOs.

PSA is hiring very "senior" FO's. There are truly guys getting hired by majors and LCC's before they hit the line. What is wrong with that? That is a good thing. There are former Comair captains that are starting indoc now.

The typical new hire pilot at PSA is a guy that has been in the regionals for 5-7 years. They are getting hired before guys that are "senior" to them, but it is because they are better qualified. That is nothing to be ashamed of. If a former captain from another airline with 10,000 hours that just started with PSA gets hired before a PSA FO that has 4 years with the regionals and 5000 hours, there is nothing wrong with that.

I understand that other airlines may have more senior people leaving, but PSA only has about 400 "senior" pilots that have been with the company more than a couple of years. If 8 of the 400 senior people are leaving each month, that is a fairly high percentage. That is 25% attrition of senior pilots each year. That would mean that in 4 years, all of the people that have been here more than a couple of years will have moved up and be gone.

As the pilot pool gets bigger, attrition will continue to increase. That is how it works. As more and more senior people move on to the majors, more spots will open for people to move up. Add that to the 3 new airplanes a month that are coming to PSA over the next year and a half, that is a ton of movement.

And the FO's that "wash out" of training is very low. Keep trolling...

Thanks for the responses. I am currently deciding where to go and the big picture is really looking like its good anywhere. I am a young guy looking to get in and get out as quick as possible to grab my number at a major.

Just remember, there are at least 8,000 pilots already in the regionals that are looking for the same thing. Most have at least few thousand hours of 121/jet time already, college degrees, and clean records. Not trying to be a downer - but that is the truth.

Everyone says "get in and get out", but it is important to find somewhere that is a good place to spend 3-5 years of your life. Choosing the right regional will keep that time to a minimum, and be a good place to work while you are there.

There are a couple hotels that some guys stay at. The Fairfield gives us pretty good rates, has a shuttle, and free breakfast.

Most everyone gets their first choice of base by the time that they finish IOE. You will likely be given Dayton initially (junior base). By the time that you finish your checkride, most everyone gets TYS and by the time that they start IOE, they have CLT (provided that they want CLT). Not sure where you want to be based, but it is very likely that you will have it by the time that you finish IOE.

Since you know everything, exactly how many PSA pilots were hired at Delta and United last year?
