It's probably a good thing they are using the iPads. When we went through upgrade they did not even have enough books for all the new hires and upgrades. Pretty bad if you ask me.

2 x classes of 30 per month has been the norm now for quite some time.

Hey all. Hello and welcome to all the new pilots. The quality of pilots I have been training has been outstanding. It is obvious if a student comes prepared for the sims.

The better you know the calls, flows and procedures before you start sims the easier it will be for you. You will be able to concentrate more on flying the airplane and less on trying to remember calls, flows and procedures. On your time off before sims, spend at least an hour or two a day in the books and chair flying.
I look forward to working with you.

I'll have to second that. Ground school is very relaxed but things get miuch more interesting when you get to sims. Knowing calls and procedures in advance (similar to how everyone knew limitations in advance before reporting for class) makes thing much easier. The flying of the airplane itself is not difficult, its memorizing all the calls and procedures.

I thought they were running close to 2x40?

I was in a class of 36, I think they topped out at 38, but because it's 30 doesn't mean they're ramping down hiring. It's probably hit or miss for them. 30 is a large number. Not to mention that this is the "experimental" class like they said, it's probably beneficial to use a smaller group to experiment with.

30 as opposed to 36 is def. not a smaller group. I think it all depends on who they actually hired. I know for sure that for my class they had a few days of interviews where almost everyone failed the written and were told to re-apply in 6 months. That could mean they may only have been able to secure a 20-30 people class for that 2 week hiring window.

Or maybe they are making smaller classes to alleviate delays in training/IOE. Maybe they figured 30 is an optimum number per class.
