Looks like there are around 200+ FO's that are in training or waiting for ioe. We are not overstaffed as they are junior manning pilots often.

How many more pilots do you think will need to be hired before hiring starts to slow down?

Slow down? Hiring probably won't slow down for years as nearly all regionals are hiring due to retirements at the mainline carriers.

Until they hit their target and then hire for attrition.

I didn't mean coming to a screeching halt, but I am just wondering how much longer these 60 per month classes are going to continue, before they are clearly overstaffed compared to the airplanes the currently have on property.

Take the average pilots hired per month (60) and minus 20 pilot attrition average per month to get 40. Add that to the current pilot group which was listed above and then you will find the rough answer

I wonder how long upgrades are going to take for the April class. Understanding and know the attrition rate makes me think just over a year to a year and a half..

I'd say two years. 4 months of training and the rest of the time is getting the 1000 121. Lots of FOs are being displaced due other pilots doing IOE making time building rather difficult unless you don't fly with a check airman. With SAP and all the open time it is easy to pair with a check airman and not knowing. Not to mention reserve will start to catch up and folks will sit reserve for a few months.

What if you come in now (or April) with the 121 time....how long to upgrade? How long on reserve as an FO?

Most guys with the prior 121 time are looking at a 6 to 8 month upgrade as of right now. So basically it will take you a few months to get from DOH to the line, and then you will fly the line for a handfull of months then to upgrade you go. Reserve is almost nonexistent if you bid DAY or TYS, 2 to 4 months tops if you bid CLT.
