The SAP is the greatest quality of life tool at the regional level. It has been said many times, and is still true.
PSA is not all unicorns and rainbows. Not at all. But, if all you want to do is to go to work, fly a good schedule, get paid pretty good money to do so, and go home - it is pretty darn good.
My wife and I have a trip planned for February. Tickets are purchased (I bought tickets - 20% off through AA so I don't have to worry about non-rev), non-refundable hotel reservations have been made. We even have a couple tours planned. I do not have a vacation in February, and I am not worried in the least about getting those 8 days off. I know I will be able to SAP and get the time off.

Holy good sweet jesus- I can't believe that I'm that big of an idiot. Yes of course CIN is CVG..... I apologize guys. Been a rough couple of days. I'm a former AWAC captain (I know, what an idiot not knowing what CVG was) but it's been a rough couple of days and I don't have my head on straight.

Unfortunately SAP is only in base training. You can swap out your cvg trips for clt or any other base during seniority or first come first serve trading only if the reserve grid for
Those days have a surplus over the buffer.

So if I have this correct in my head; lets say you have a normal line in CVG (got it right this time!) and the commute there is a pain. Is it possible to drop all your trips and using the SAP build up a schedule in CLT for example? Or do you have to credit 65 hours in your base at a minimum? In other words is SAP open to all line holding pilots to bid into and out of all bases?

About SAPing out of base...
You can only SAP for trips in your base.
However, you can SAP down to 65 hours, and then put your trips up on the trade board. If someone picks up a trip of yours off of the trade board, you could get down to the point that you only have a couple trips in base.
Then, you can pick up trips out of base.
So, if you live in CLT and are based in DAY, you could make it so you only have a couple of trips a month in DAY, and the rest in CLT.

Hello,
I have offers from both EDV and PSA. I'm now making the typical "who should I pick" post and am hoping to get some views. I don't want the decision made for me, just information to help.
Previous 121/CRJ experience.
EDV Question
- If you only care about base, how quickly can you get out of NYC? I want DTW and don't nessicarly care about the fast upgrades and quick times in getting a line in the NYC domicle.
Hypothetically speaking: Class date is 11/2016, when could I sniff DTW? In addition I'm ignoring the "fast upgrade" at EDV because once I get out of NYC I don't plan on going back.
PSA Question(s)
- I live just outside the 2hr limit for SCR, but I'm eyeing DAY as the base I want. Same scenario as above with a 11/2016 class date, when could I expect LCR and/or Round 1/SAP bidding.
- How are the AA flight benefits. Didn't really get a full answer on them.
Pros at EDV:
- DTW base
- No stipulations for the bonus
Pros at PSA:
- DAY base
- No "sophomore slump" in pay
- Realistic upgrade chance
- AA "flow" but that isn't a big factor for me but nice to have in the back pocket.
Posting this in both EDV and PSA topics.
Thanks

At PSA, we get the same flight benefits as mainline. They are good. We can book our own flights and check loads, which I know some other regionals can not.
Upgrade chance really depends on hiring as well. Right now it is 26 months. We had big classes for most of 2015, but tiny classes in 2016 until the last month or two.
If attrition and hiring continues as it is right now, it will be pretty fast. But that is NOT a guarantee. I previously said that if we continue filling classes of 25 every two weeks, it will be an 18 month upgrade. It is only a personal opinion, but I stand by it.
There are about 450 FO's that will upgrade. (after taking out instructors and lifers)
I think we will lose about 20% to attrition in the next 18 months, but lets just say 10% to be conservative. That leaves 405.
That would mean upgrade classes of 11 every two weeks. The past several classes were 8 every two weeks, and that was before our hiring increased, attrition of CA's started to really climb, and before we start getting more 700's. Most everyone thinks upgrade classes will be at 16 again starting soon.
