Sure you can pick stuff up but you're sacrificing your days off in doing so. Most people who are busting their butts to get 1000 hours did it in a little over 1.5 years.
Well, most of the guys in my class flew 80+ hrs on our first month of reserve, so FOs are definitely flying.
I'll have 425 hrs by the end of Dec and I started IOE in mid June.
One of the other guys in my class will have close to 500 hrs.

Wow that's 90+ hours a month of flying on reserve Hahahaha. How much time of that is deadheading?

Keep in mind that about a year ago we finished hiring close to a hundred street CAs, and that's why you're seeing the low numbers that you see with regard to the junior person in each category. For a new hire, the upgrade time will be around 2 years (assuming continued hiring) because there will be plenty of FOs senior to you with the necessary experience to upgrade.

3. Correct.
Thanks!!

Any recent new hires care to comment on what tax rate the bonus is taxed? I'm reading mixed things. Flat 25%, 39%. 15%. Pretty significant differences...

Thanks in advance.

Income is not taxed when you are paid, an amount is withheld toward your eventual tax bill. It isn't until you file your tax return for that year that the amount of tax is determined and whether it was regular income or a bonus is not a consideration.

Taxes are withheld on bonuses at a 25% rate but the additional tax that you will eventually be charged for that money will be at your marginal tax rate which could be anywhere from 0% to the maximum marginal tax rate, depending on your situation. If your eventual marginal rate is less than 25% then the difference is added to your refund (or subtracted from what you owe).

Can you have your bonus deposited into your 401k?

Not likely as the 401K doesn't take effect for about 6 months. You could of course save that money and deposit it into your own retirement funds if you like. Since there is a commitment period attached to the bonus, it may be prudent to keep it available in case you need to give it back for whatever reason...
