Junior captain date of hire was street captain back around late 2015. Now upgrades are in seniority order. Latest upgrades went to August 2014 new hires.

If the company starts massive
Upgrade numbers again I would suspect people upgrading out of order again as people will bypass and wait for their base of choice or whatever reason they have. But until then it'll probably be 3 years for upgrade, looking at current upgrade numbers. We have a lot of growth left so I would anticipate larger sized upgrade classes. This all depends if we can staff with new hires coming in the door.

Hi all,

I interviewed this week.
They served Kool-aid at lunch. I drank it. You don't think that was a mistake, do you?

Anyway, they offered and I took the job. Now I can judge for myself who is exaggerating more: the glowing recruiters or the internet naysayers. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. I hear it's out there, the truth is.

So, just happy to be heading back to flying again, and out of the half-baked GA side of things.

Took a class in December, so those folks a few pages back deferring through the holidays will be junior to me. And they assured us that the vacation allotment was on the calendar year, not years of service, so those of us who got the offer and took Dec class dates should have 2 weeks starting in Jan. (was a rumor/discussion a few pages back as well... just passing along info I was given.) We'll see.

Although they are waiting a long time on this next CA announcement.... good or bad sign? Guess we will see.

I would assume there will be at least one class in December. It's first week of November. I'd expect an announcement in the next few days and the award to be at least two weeks prior to class.

There are already 2 upgrade classes in November. An announcement now would likely be for the 3rd class in November.

I am not sure if they will wait and only have 2 in November, or just keep them coming every 2 weeks.

We have 125+ new hires either in class now or slated to start class between now and January 1st, so the large upgrade classes should start again fairly soon.

I heard there will possibly be a large upgrade class in December/January, and then to expect a couple of large upgrade classes in the spring as we begin bringing on more airplanes.

American Airlines Projected Retirements for 2016 - 2028

(Projections based on active pilots turning 65 in the given year.)

Roster Data Updated on: 11/1/2016

Year Total
11/3/2016 - 12/31/2016 - 68
2017 - 407
2018 - 541
2019 - 651
2020 - 782
2021 - 853
2022 - 874
2023 - 958
2024 - 930
2025 - 955
2026 - 901
2027 - 766
2028 - 665

The estimates previously released showed 2017-2019 quite a bit higher, but many of those retired early in 2016. I would expect this to continue, as many are not waiting until 65.

I know there are already 2, but they have been rolling every 2 weeks and not necessarily a number per month. With this trend, the next one would start on the 28th. And after the amount of people they've lost to delta and elsewhere, I'd assume they'd keep that 2 week trend and even expand the classes a little. But planning ahead has never been one of their strengths.
