No offense but you are contractually illiterate and so is the other FO you speak of.

Call me FO Obvious but.....

This is also a trick the company uses to avoid making days critical. Not only are you taking illegal abuse you are costing yourself and others money.

So is it not allowed per the contract? Or not allowed because it is not in the contract? I had this same thing happen years ago and the union rep said it is legal. But that was under the old contract of course. I am not claiming it is right or legal. This company does a lot to reserves that is not legal.

I have seen several FOs on reserve in DAY that are not based in DAY. The contract doesn't specifically address TDY reserve. (at least I couldn't find it) which I take to mean that TDY reserve is not allowed.

The only reference that kind of addresses it, is

12.B.3

"Rest in domicile between reserve (availability) periods will be scheduled for a minimum of ten (10) hours between reserve periods and in no case will actual rest be less than nine (9) hours."

meaning that if they do want to DH you for reserve then they have to get you back to your domicile between reserve periods, and you cannot sit hot because any layover greater than 4:45 requires a hotel

Anyone who has been subject to this needs to contact the CP and the union, this is a breach of contract. If the company wants pilots to sit TDY reserve then they need to draft an Letter Of Agreement that outlines the specific rules and compensation.

TDY to hot reserve is an illegal assignment. You should be released for 10 hours rest today since you reported for said assignment, and you need to have the HRV removed from your schedule tomorrow.

Edit: Looks like you guys beat me to it=) woops.

No sympathy for you. You are single handedly causing the critical day pay problem. Get it together and start making some phone calls.

I am not necessarily blaming new FOs for having a hard time understanding their contract. If it is their first airline, new FOs are trying to wrap their head around how to fly the jet and be proficient in doing so, learning how to work their schedules, learning how to look for pay "irregularities", learn how to work in a 121 environment, and learning how to get along with a variety of crews in a variety of environments.

The contracts are not easy reading.

I know that I have personally sent several emails to the union email addresses asking questions about the contract and have never received a reply.

Wouldn't it be nice if the union would put together a video that covered different parts of the contract that new guys could watch and learn from? Maybe narrated power point slides with pay, scheduling, reserve, and other work rules that everyone should understand.

Many new FOs think that scheduling is their boss, and they are just doing what they are told. They don't want to get in trouble while on probation, and do not want to show up as a "problem employee".

It takes a good captain helping these guys understand how things really work and help them understand their contract.

Our old forum was great for questions. But it scared ALPA having pilots communicating to one another.

So again I ask. Where does it state that if the company tdy's you to another base to sit reserve that it is illegal to sit hrv? I love how people keep stating it is illegal, yet not one person has shown proof. If you are going to tell new fo's that it is illegal you should be able to show them or tell them where it is stated.

In no way am I saying it is legal or right. But I want to see proof. Not just "it's illegal"

I don't need the union to make a cute youtube video with my dues so I can better understand the contract. If I don't understand a section, I blame myself. I re-read the section until it's cemented in my head. I'm not the sharpest guy and I can understand the contract just fine. It might take me 5 times to read something until it clicks but it is what it is, knowledge is powerful and patience goes a long way.
