Well let's look at recent history, (past 20 years or so). Regional airlines use to operate 7 seat Navajos. They then increased to 15 seat Beech 99's and Bandeirantes (EMB-110), followed by 19 seat Beech 1900's, Jetstreams, and Metroliners. Then they added 30 passenger Shorts 330's and Saabs, followed by EMB-120 Brasilias. Finally, regional airlines incorporated CRJ-100s, 200, 700, and now 900s.

History shows us that increasing regional aircraft capacity may help result in "more feed for mainline", but it certainly hasn't resulted in "additional mainline jets to handle the increase in passengers"!

It's called "the lost decade" and it's largely due to the INCREASE in regional aircraft capacity.

I've learned quite a bit over the years. One thing being that I don't like to ride on cramped 50 seat RJ's. I wish the smallest was a 70 seater and really like riding on the ERJ 190. I'd like to see the regionals re-equip with 70 and 90 seat "widebody" RJ's. Would make travel much more comfortable.

Or the mainline can fly them.

Their costs would be too high.

Go fly for mainline then. Enough is enough. These aircraft are not even regional. They fly mainline passengers on transnational mainline routes for a fraction of what they pay pilots on their seniority lists. You don't see a problem with that? I think you're just lazy and don't want to have to start over at a new company. Even at the expense of making a fraction of what a mainline FO makes as a senior CA for whomever you work.

Nope. If that holds down the cost of a ticket that I have to pay out of my pocket to fly my family somewhere, then I'm all for it. Flying is a commodity and people will usually take the cheapest seat first. They don't care whose flying it.

The cost-benefit is wiped out if you throw a ton of money at mainline to outsource large RJs. It's already getting to the point where places like Delta are pulling feed in-house. If out-sourcing saves 30% and they offer 30% raises, the only benefit is a loss of quality control. So... No benefit.

Wait, so your argument is, pay me less so tickets are cheaper for everyone else? We should go back to $16/hr then we can lower ticket prices.

I would be for lowering of ticket prices. Lower prices, more passengers. More passengers, more demand for regional flying and therefore, quicker upgrades. Everyone wins. The consumer through lower ticket prices and the regional pilot through quicker upgrades. I don't understand why you guys can't see that.
