Nowadays specific equipment allows for improved QOL at some carriers. The type matters as well, as it potentially opens more doors globally. Truth be told, an EMB type is far more valuable than a CRJ.

I know Republic is the only regional that has only E170/175 fleet, but their classes are full for the year.
Compass also is 170/175 only.
And yes, it's worth it. It's an awesome jet

Really?
To whom?

I get it. It's a shiny new jet. It's pretty. Has fancy automatic systems.
But, sorry to break it to you - the world doesn't revolve around it.

I personally know of many pilots who are now at major airlines that were never typed in ANY jet before getting there....in fact, most of them flew only turboprops before moving on to the major.
And, amazingly enough - they got hired!
Wow, who knew?

I hear you bud. I graduated in '92 when guys were paying for their own training to fly for those regionals and then making peanuts.

I forgot about Compass, but I'm not commuting to the West coast for a certain aircraft.

Thanks for the honest answer bud, good that we have some mature posters on here and not all smart ass youngsters. Cheers.

It's more useful if you want to go to China. Apart from that, no big difference.
He did mention globally, so there's that.

Why do you think this?

If given the choice, I have no idea which to choose between the CRJ or the EMB.

Actually it does. How many carriers globally operate Embraer’s over CRJ’s? The majority of them!

Yeah, in the states it won’t give you a leg up, maybe at JB possibly, but overall worldwide a much more valuable type rating.

If you’ll ever consider an overseas job, you’ll have much better chances with an EMB type. It could be a plan B if the economy takes a dump.

It your primary goal has nothing to do with overseas adventures, take the equipment that will give you the better QOL over type then. I can only speak on behalf of one regional (YX), but I’m sure others can tell you whether the EJet or CRJ offers a better QOL at theirs.

Honestly, Mesa might be your best bet. Not entirely sure what the wait time is (if any), but something to consider. PIC time is PIC time regardless of carrier.

Envoy recently had a street captain hold the 175 after six months on property. That being said his life will suck because he’s going to be pushed down every vacancy bid for the next two years, and might hold a line when he’s been on property for for around three and a half years if he’s lucky. Plus he runs the very real risk of being bumped off the jet.
