But for those who just want to do a degree that will allow them to party for 5-6 years while stalling their entry into the work force at public expense... No thanks, not on my dime. I actually need my house more than those people need an all expenses paid vacation to recover from HS before hitting the real world.
I think it should be tiered- in demand degree at a four year public university? Free, with room and board and stipend. Other degree at a four year public school? Guaranteed subsidized loans for the entire amount. Private school? You’re on your own. I have no idea why we’re offering public financial aid to students at private universities when there are hundreds of taxpayer subsidized, good state schools.

Both my father, and mother completed their degrees for under $3500. I want that 1970's price point.

I tend to agree, but the argument would be that many or most of the "best" schools (ie ivy league, Stanford, etc.) are private, and this need to be available to the disadvantaged.

That's the argument, but personally IMO if you want access to private anything, go earn the money, don't expect the taxpayers to cover that. There are plenty of very good public schools, although some of them are darn pricey too.

I have a long-time friend in public college administration (not a teacher, not a Phd, not the college president). She manages 2-6 people, and makes legacy airline pay. Of course with lavish benefits out the wazoo. She's in the junior college system, and has moved around a lot... and they ALL pay that much.

Why? The administrators make bank, the union staff makes bank, the facilities are lavish and epic, but teachers/professors still complain they don't get paid enough.

The crazy thing is, salaries are not even close to the largest expense. Over the last 5 years, Universities have spent almost $1.5 trillion on advertising/student recruiting. Greater than 50% of student tuition is that.

What’s with 4 year bachelor degrees anyway? The rest of the world completes them in 3.

But I will say this the only reason that a college degree is “required” is because we let them convince us to all go get one. If we stopped telling young pilots to go get a stupid degree all this would end. A degree is required because we made it that way by way to many of us being willing to shell out even more money for something that is completely useless. It’s a scam.
And for this reason is why you’ll continue to fly for Mesa.

By looking at your post history Mesa’s living rent free in your head isn’t it? What a sad existence.
