FOR THIS VACANCY NOTICE, for 14 CR2 Captains, the seat lock is released. The notice says that this is (so far) only for this vacancy notice. Also, 12 CR2 FO's will be hired.
I think per that CBA section that is quoted, they are only releasing enough seatlocks to fill the vacancies, IF people that are not seat-locked don't fill the given vacancy? Anyone else want to clarify this? That's the way I read it.

The section of the contract that they quote on the vacancy is the "non-discriminatory release" section. 24.C.1. allows the release of ANY and ALL equipment freezes on a uniform and non-discriminatory basis. This means that vacancy 08-01 will be awarded in seniority order and SF3 seatlocks are released for the purpose of this bidding.

What you are referring to ("If people that are not seat-locked don't fill the given vacancy") is covered under section 24.C.4.b(2).

First, I'm new to this site and would like to thank all the Mesaba gurus for all the great info on this thread.

I interviewed right after Christmas and got the Street Captain offer. I'm thrilled to be going to Mesaba and I'm hoping to be in the 01/28 class if they open it up to Street CAs.

I'm trying to put together a family budget before class starts (I'll be commuting for a while) and have some pay/QOL questions.

So here we go...

1) Can reserves "bid to fly", ie. volunteer to be first called for assignments?

2) How often do reserves break guarantee? Never, twice a year, or fairly often if they try hard enough? (I'll be trying for DTW if that makes a difference)

3) Does anyone have the 2008 year-one Captain pay rate in front of them?

4) Are reserve days off "hard" days, or movable? Are the 11 days off in sets (2s and 3s), single days, or a combo?

5) What is "Saab leak"? rainwater? Deice? Mysterious old goo? How does one defend oneself from it?

6) Now for a big QOL issue: Do the Saabs have cupholders?

7) Do they pair CA/CA or CA/FO for the sims?

8) Are the Street CAs still starting groundschool one week early?

Thanks for all the help and see you in MSP!

1) you can preference 1st out for reserve

3)Year 1=20-35 pass. TP is $44.64/hr. Next year if we have 79 A/C it will go to 46.20f for 1st year pay

4) they are hard days, they cannot be a single day off except due to integration

5) my guess is its the condensation during the summer dripping out of the gasper plumbing over the top of the flightdeck windows, makes a mess out of your jepps.

6) Yes, they will hold a styro cup just fine--if you drink coffee get a mug with a handle that would hang thru the cup holder.

Yes, you can bid first out or last out reserve.

2) How often do reserves break guarantee? Never, twice a year, or fairly often if they try hard enough? (I'll be trying for DTW if that makes a difference)

Haven't been on reserve for a while, but my experience was not once did I break guarantee. Scheduling is notorious for flying you right up to 74 hrs, and then you sit the rest of the month. Maybe things have changed, but I doubt it.

3) Does anyone have the 2008 year-one Captain pay rate in front of them?

$44.64

4) Are reserve days off "hard" days, or movable?

Hard, with the exception of being junior manned. I have not heard of them junior manning Saab CA's lately but again, I haven't really been paying attention either.

Are the 11 days off in sets (2s and 3s), single days, or a combo?

Usually 5 or 4 days on with 2 or 3 days off. Single days off can happen due to schedule integration between one month end and the next month begining.

5) What is "Saab leak"? rainwater? Deice? Mysterious old goo? How does one defend oneself from it?

Condensation from the air ducts. A well placed galley wipe or two will keep you drip free.

6) Now for a big QOL issue: Do the Saabs have cupholders?

Absolutely, we spared no expense.

7) Do they pair CA/CA or CA/FO for the sims?

They try to do CA/FO pairings, but sometimes class numbers don't work out. If two CA's or FO's are paired up, they sit in the appropriate seat while acting as the PF, and vice versa for the PNF.

8) Are the Street CAs still starting groundschool one week early?

Haven't heard otherwise.

Thanks for all the help and see you in MSP!
Welcome aboard!

So how many CRJ-200 FO's are they going to hire in total to man the 17 aircraft fleet. I ask this because I am in the Feb 25th class for the 200 and I know right now there are 39 FO's for the 200 and a Jan 28th class for the CRJ-200.( I do not know what the split is for the class CA/FO). And do you think with a senority of the CRJ-200 around 55-60 will that pu me on reserve till kingdom come or do you think it will be a few months and then get a green line. By the way kinda wanting to know so if I need to get another job while I am on reserve. I.E. flight instruction. Guys have a good day nad will see ya soon at MSP.

Actually, today there are 62 CRJ FO's. The Jan 28 class will bring the number to 74. I believe they will staff to around 95, so coming in Feb, you will be at best number 75 out of 95ish. Some reserve time is to be expected, but with the movement we will continue to have through the end of summer, I don't think reserve will be endless for you on that airplane.

Wow 62....man I saw the list the other day and it only had 39 listed on there. But at least movement will make things go smoother.

You'll get your green line as soon as you finish OE. (Atleast that's what is suppose to happen). The idea is to get your initial 75 hours in type out of the way, then you will probably hold reserve for a bit.
