Agree.

IMHO Delta wanted to avoid "significant" ASA furloughs while getting rid of twenty 200s. By moving ten 900s, they saved about 100 ASA qualified positions while "delaying" (pool) Mesaba new hire class dates. It also helped alleviate some of the Mesaba training backlog. ASA is furloughing about eighty (sad news) but it's less painful then 180.

Again IMHO, better news is comming for Mesaba.

Ok, and unless they award more planes of some sort to Mesaba they likely have created a need to furlough here. They have already put out the memo begging current Saab upgrades to voluntarily withdrawl from class. That's basically saying we will be displacing soon if they don't get any takers, which will cause an even bigger overstaffing of FO's. And therefore even more likely to furlough unless we get more planes.

You got to be kidding me or you are just naive. Delta could care less on how many people get furloughed. Delta did not give 10 planes to ASA to reduce the number of furloughs. Delta did that because it benefits Delta. Get real my friend.

There are some here who think I am anything but naive when it comes to air carrier management.

I have been to Area 51 but never to the highly guarded sub basement office of Delta Strategic Long Range planning where there is a theater sized screen displaying the "big picture." It cycles through power point slides of Management decisions that benefit Delta . The decision makers all sit around smoking Havana cigars, drinking expensive booze and planning their next bonus check while surfing nets like this for "ideas." An inside source told me that Slide # 463A1(b)(2) shows they are considering your most recent "realistic" suggestion (another thread) of,

" I think Deltoid is rightsizing Mesaba and Comair for the upcoming merger."

Just kidding. Hope your pool number gets called eventually and you can move from Comair but continue your association with Deltoid.

I didn't see any but that was 1966. Perhaps they have found some since then.

I think FLYCRJ200 has a subject worthy of discussion.

"Delta's Plan: Shrink both Comair and Mesaba and merge them."

If you read the mergers or majors thread, the "Seniority intergration trauma" - basing, aircraft assignment, lines flown, downgrades, pay, etc., etc. are big headaches. Why would Delta management, Unions and Pilot groups want to increase their Excedrin consumption by repeating the process ? It's easier (for management) to just gradually "disolve" Comair.

Reading the "Comair Updates" thread makes one think the process has started.

Well...you raise a valid point about DL not wanting to create a bigger headache for themselves by merging our two pilot groups. However, if it makes or saves them money somehow they will shift the pain of that headache onto the pilot groups to get it done...guaranteed! But I am not going to fall into the line of thinking that Comair is being torn down and Mesaba being built up. It may appear that way, but things change far too quickly in this business.

Well based on today's bid packs, 900 Captains are probably staffed properly per known airplanes. Saab Captains overstaffed for sure. FO's seem close to where they need to be. The CRJ200 may be a bit overstaffed but not enough to justify displacements. Overall there are 2 big "?" How many of the MSP 900 phantom instructors get sent back to the line. Because that will send rippling displacements throughout the company. Second how many Saab captains get displaced to FO and is that enough to cause furloughs....

This is all based on the FEB bid packages....nothing more.

What's a "MSP 900 phantom instructor" - I'm curious.
