Polarized lenses made the windshield of the King Air have black vertical strips and dots.

I have a pair of polarized. I didn't get them for flying, they just happen to be my regular sunglasses. They seem to cut the early morning brightness/glare etc. but do cause a bit of discoloration on the front windshield (not enough to make me go out and buy another pair of shades though). They do not interfear with the view of the crt screens at all on the crj. I think if I had to buy a new pair, I would sport some serengeti's. They seem to be pretty nice for flying and I fly with a lot of captains that seem to be real happy with them. Though I don't think I would like them for my casual glasses

My prescription sunglasses are polarized and make the windshield on the ERJ look like a giant rainbow. Also, the RMU's and ISIS go dark if I tilt my head sideways. The only reason I still have these is because I cant afford a new pair of prescription lenses. So, for now, I only use them in cruise and have to squint my way through most takeoffs and landings...

A couple years ago I was doing an evening approach into MRY with the setting sun. It was real hazy and the tower asked if we had the airport. I started to say no, but the FO said he had it. I looked over and asked how the hell he could see the airport, to which he replied "Polarization Dude!". He handed me the sunglasses and I was surprised at the difference it made. I still didn't like them for normal ops but always kept a pair handy for hazy approaches into the sun.

Same here, MJ's don't ever cause problems for me in the EMJ.

My preferred shades at the regionals were the classic Nike Tarj. They were virtually indestructible, had grey lenses good for any light level, and had thin enough earpieces to wear the Dave Clark's without any head pain, even after 9 legs in the mighty Beech.

I tried out a pair of polarized Oakley's recently and there is just too much discoloration of the windscreen in the MD-11.

Currently sporting Smiths that have good wraparound coverage.

Damn.... I don't get you guys not having problems with polarized lenses in the ERJ. I have this pair of sunglasses that makes me see rainbows all over the windshield when I wear them. I assumed it was because they were polarized.

Maybe I have weird eyes or something???

Polarized don't work in an MD-80 or 737. The windscreens show all kinds of rainbows and some digital instruments disappear in the MD.

BTW you can tell if you have polarized glasses by holding them at arms length, looking at the sky and rotating them in a clockwise/counter clockwise manner. You will notice the sky change color and cloud contrast change markedly if they are polarized.

Call me crazy, but wouldn't you feel safer having to look through a rainbow and not being able to tilt your head when looking at the RMU than having to squint your way through the most critical phases of flight?
