It's all about who you know in there. If you have friends working in the company, it helps you. I got a friend with @ 2k hours, no 121 PIC, A320 type, worked for Spirit, who just got hired with Etihad last month. It's all about who you know.

I'm pretty sure the A320 type sealed the deal for him/her. Most aren't interested unless you're typed.

Oh no question about that. That's why I'm going to get the damn WIA program to pay for one. I'm very seriously considering going overseas. Don't have much hope in the industry here for the next few years. Already one of my crashpad mates got a job flying a challenger in Dubai. Another one had dual citizenship (Australia) and got a job with Qantas (as long as he takes the tests over there).

Good Luck to you. This industry stinks right now. I hope the free type works out for you. It will definitely give you a chance.

Does anyone have any information about using the WIA in Georgia?

I called yesterday, and they basically said that they only offer assistance for their approved programs...which aviation isn't a part of.

Has anyone ever used the WIA in Georgia for a type?

Keep harpooning. Ask for a supervisor, call a different time, etc. It has nothing to do with being an approved program. The only part that nedds to be approved is the vendor, and they take care of that. You qualify for the worker's improvement program and one of their stipulations is to "help attain a license, certification, etc, that will help you secure employment in your field". Just keep bothering them. Another thing is, it is funded on yearly basis. Next month an entire funding year begins anew and better/easier chances to get your petition approved. BTW, go to the WIA site on your State, take their questionare, then they'll make an appt for you with a counselor. That's the person who decides.
