we are currently having about 30 pilots a month leave so theoretically attrition should take care of it in about 2 months.

If the numbers by CRJDRIVER are correct, then attrition at 10 crews per plane would take us to just over 1,000 pilots. I'm guessing we have just over 1,400 pilots now so I think we may be in for a 6+ month freeze. Which for all of us at the bottom of the list adds another 1/2 year to our reserve life.

Question...today there are 11 captains on reserve in JFK (all have trips for the most part) and there are 31 FO's on reserve in JFK.... how does this make sense to the people who staff us....? And everytime I sit ready its alone without a captain for the last 6 readys or so

Was just over on jetcareers.com and saw this article, also of interest is that Delta is now talking to United and Northwest for a possible merger. Interesting, to say the least

Friday January 11, 2008 Comair, a regional subsidiary of Delta Air Lines, will eliminate up to 14 50-seat aircraft from its fleet of 131 regional jets.
Delta previously announced it will cut its domestic flights by up to 5%, a reduction that is the equivalent of 10 mainline aircraft and 35 RJs. Delta Connection carriers will have up to 15% fewer scheduled block hr. as the company reduces flying and fuel consumption. At the same time, DL intends to increase international capacity by 15%.
Some of the Comair reductions will be achieved through decreased utilization while others will result in the return of aircraft to lessors, President John Selvaggio said in a memo sent to employees Wednesday. Eight of the eliminated aircraft are on leases that expire soon while the remaining six will be removed from service and could be sold.
"With fewer block hours, Comair must align our staffing across the company to support what will become a smaller operation," Selvaggio said, adding that he expected "front-line reductions" to be met through attrition. "Most immediately we expect to achieve savings by revising existing programs as well as by implementing new technology initiatives that will help us streamline our work."
Comair currently has 6,300 employees and operates 697 flights to 88 cities in the US and Canada. Delta has expressed an interest in selling the subsidiary for some time

to answer both your ? Planning

remember the contract states a 60 / 40 balance between short calls and long calls so when we arent at the balance the most jr have to move windows.

EF is only approved thru planning if for future dates. current day its at are discretion.

Thanks FTR. Someone had once told me it was Planning that looked at it and is *supposed* to reassign people to long call based on seniority and who bid for it. As in, the more senior people should get long call if they bid it over a jr person who bid it. Guess that's not true and I've been getting frustrated for no reason...for only having been given a long call once since May. So, I guess the fact that Diver (jr to me) got L1 today and I'm still on A6 is "legal" then..... Although I guess it also makes sense they wouldn't reassign an A5, A6, or A7 because they'd have to release him/her early the night before...

Just saw something on the news about an emergency landing at CVG...something with the nosewheel steering. Looked uneventful on the news, anyone know anything more?
