Being a high cost operation possibly prevented DL from selling Comair, which to me means one of two things. 1) They're finally going to get serious about lowering our cost (i.e. try to get the senior people out via buy-outs, etc), and 2) If they can't do so (lower our operational cost), they can't get rid of us which brings a whole new set of possibilities.

Evil, I wish I could be as positive as you!

I too, get the impression that no one saw this coming. However, I don't see this as a good thing for Comair. From the press release I gather that we were unsellable because of our high cost structure (Delta even financed the Mesaba and Compass deal).

My question, is why can't the get they get rid of us all together?

--sorry for being such a pessimist, and with that said, I really really hope I am dead wrong.

The high cost structure is BS. What keeps somebody from buying Comair to get the contracts and than shut it down and transfer the planes to theircert?

Is management really that stupid to dismantle something they paid 2 billion for? Anything is possible and I don't think it would surprise anybody but its crazy.
Your argument is quite logical. However, the people who are now making the decisions at Delta are not. Richard (DICK) Anderson has a very strong dislike for Comair. Would he dismantle an asset like Comair to prove a point? You bet. I wish all the best for Comair, but honestly, this is starting to look troublesome. What is he planning to do with the only whoollly owned Delta has? Why were they unable to sell it to Pinnacle? Guess we will find out soon enough, same DICK A. time, same DICK A. channel!
(I hear it's on the sodomy channel, a new channel started by corporate America, hmmmmmm.)

There will never be a serious buyout of senior guys. DAL is not going to reward the very people that were the ones behind the 01 strike. If that song and dance were to happen it would have happend years ago.

I see DAL not being able to sell OH for what they want, and deciding to continue to operate it as cheaply as they can. IE no additional airframes added for several years until the labor cost finally goes down.

This might answer a lot of questions...

The sale leaves only a single owned regional, Comair, at Delta. Based at Delta’s diminishing hub at Cincinnati, the future of Comair has been an open question for some time. It has not been seen as a good acquisition target by other regionals owing to its union problems and costs.

a gut feeling...

Delta preferred to offload all wholly owned regionals.. nobody wanted Comair. After the dust settles.. in the Fall they will dismantle Comair. I think Trail may be right.

Gotta get busy and travel more this Summer!

So if someone were to buy comair what would happen with the furlough list? Is the new company obligated to continue the list or can they dissolve it? just curious if anyone knows
