Comair updates?
Mosquito,
Those numbers don't make sense unless they include a lot of costs not directly related to operating the aircraft.
I mean really, three times the cost of Pinnacle? Do Pinnacle pilots pay management to fly the planes? Does COMAIR pay cash at the local FBO for fuel? How do you cost three times more?
The only possible thing that I can think of is that they included management bonuses.
I don't believe those numbers.

I agree... I have seen other articles where the cost were VERY different. Some funky math going on there.
question-
I remember someone using there expired ATP written on a checkride after they were furloughed. You just have to have an airline employee number right? So if you go to another airline, all is still good right?

So now that our fate is sealed. Anyone sent out any resumes? I thought about applying to pinnicle til I saw their pay scale. Wow! No wonder we are more expensive. Think I would settle for unemployment over working there. I think you make about the same either way.

Talked ot a DPE in GRR/AZO who actually is a Comair Ca, and the FSDO requires it to be current.

It is good at another airline, just not Part 61 (although some got away with it). When I was doing mine, I asked the CMH FSDO and received a "letter of interpretation" from them that basically said that - if I got recalled or hired at another 121, use it "expired". But for the Part 61 checkride, I had to take it again.
First I want to be clear that I am not blaming the pilots. This sucks for the Comair guys and as someone who has been furloughed, I feel your pain. This is a horrible industry and it just plain sucks to see a company with a strong contract lose this much flying.
That said, I want to comment on the cost discussion. Earlier in the summer, I started a thread to try and compare staffing levels at the Delta Regionals. http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/re...regionals.html The numbers from that thread still surprise me. They may be inaccurate, but here is Comair vs. Pinnacle.
Pinnacle: Total Block = 39035, Total Pilots = 1225, Hours per pilot = 63.73
Comair: Total Block = 22782, Total Pilots = 1021, Hours per pilot = 44.62
Pinnacle was in serious need of hiring at that point, and still is, but I find it amazing that Pinnacle pilots average about 40% more flying per month. If you cover our flying with Comair's staffing, it would take 1749 pilots. 524 extra pilots on staff over the course of a year would be a huge expense.
I know there are more costs associated with a company than just pilots, but figured this could add to the discussion.
Again, I am sorry to hear the news guys. Truly sucks, especially for those of you who just accepted the recall.

I have read the presidents message a few times now and I keep coming up with the same thing. Are they Crazy?
IF Comair is going to be reduced to 500 pilots (or so) over the course of 2011 and 2012.... AND they want pay concessions of a serius magnitude now (immediately of course), Lets figure this out.
There are about 1100 pilots flying the line. This number will be reduced to 500 pilots (again... approximate). This means that 600 pilots are going to be asked to vote yes to a pay cut for the 7 to 18 months that they remain employees. Why would these people do this? They are losing their jobs anyway.
Now lets focus on the 500 pilots that remain employed. How many of them are over age 60? Already secure with retirement. Planned on retiring at 60 but now get to have a little extra cash and medical for a few years. Why would this group agree to a pay cut? If the company folds up they retire.... and get unemployement for a million years from Obama. They have absolutely no reason to work for less.
This entire Bendoritis message makes no sense. If they want paycuts... you dont tell your employees that more than half of them will be unemployed in 7 months or so. This leads me to believe one of two things.
1) They are planning on shutting the place down no matter what... and they know that nobody will agree to pay cuts (from the pilot side) and this is just a PR move so that they can tell the media that they tried to "save" the place and everything is the unions fault.
2) This is a negotiation tactic pure and simple. What they plan on doing has nothing to do with the pilot contract and never has.
I do however think that Comair Flight attendants making more than mainline Delta is a bit of an embarrassment. I had an elderly aunt who had a sign on her front door that read "This house is operated for the comfort and convenience of our dog." I think comair can replace Dog with Flight Attendant and hang the same sign.
