I hope to god this isn't true.
When I talked to them.... I was told that if we did not merge with anyone...then the money would be refunded minus an administrative fee (ie what was spent already on lawyers). What was also said is that there would be no timeline on it (ie this supposed merger could take a century).
IF the money is not refunded.... or not spent on a merger (which isn't going to happen), then ALPA has to refund the money. Not doing so would be a complete admission of corruptness. If the Comair MEC had any compassion for those about to be furloughed....they would eliminate the merger fund and give all pilots their money back.

As a Junior FO, I would consider my $240 a fair trade if the MEC indeed fought hard to get us our ATPs.
But who's to say that the chiefs (and I mean the chiefs that went to training) aren't the ones to actually thank for that?
Part of me doubts the MEC went into negotiations last week and said "We'd like to start this off by insisting that you give FOs their ATP" and Bendo said "OK, will next month be soon enough?"

On another note - your dues $ is what we pay the MEC/ALPA to represent our interests, not this Merger Fund $.

But what is far more likely is that it will operate as is unless a MASSIVE concessionary agreement is made. The only benefit Comair provides Delta at this point is the flexibility to add flight hours during the busy season and subtract hours during the slow season.
This is largely accomplished by the bad reserve system and ability to adjust the min line values somewhat. Aircraft productivity is not a priority (if that statement doesn't make me master of the obvious).
If this benefit is no longer a "benefit" to delta, the best theory I've heard is that the 50 seaters will be returned as the leases come due and the 70's & 90's will be transferred to someone else (The ASA - Skywest - Xjet conglomerate?).
Back to topic... ANY of the above possibilities are not worth anything to anyone below seniority number 400.
Small amounts of research show that if you are furloughed at the time of a merger....you just get stapled to the bottom of the new SLI list.
1100 (or so) pilots will receive NO BENEFIT from this merger fund. If the Comair MEC tells everyone different, they are lying to keep your money.
As stated two posts prior..... It is time to return the merger fund money.

Like everyone else has said....we paid into the merger fund 'expecting' to be merged at some point. Since said merger didn't happen, we should all get out money back especially since a lot of us aren't there anymore. BTW, I'm glad I didn't pay into the 'dooms day 2012 emergency life pack fund'. It is time to return the merger fund money.

Delta can make these announcements because they know Comair only has 28 days left.

So I got awarded four weeks of crap vacation that I dont want to use. Can I sell this back to the company or do I have to wait for the furlough. Also can u just chose to not use the vacation and put it back in the bank and who do you talk to about vaca. Thanks!!!

Or quit and get a vacation pay out.
Essentially you can trade it with open weeks or another pilot, but you can't rebank it.
