I hate to break up an actual useful streak of posts, but here's a (not-so) funny story for you to share with your kids.

A friend of mine, just the other day, ferried to DAY, ran an extra section to MKE, ran another extra section back to DAY, then ferried home. The passenger on each of the extra sections consisted of 1 UM.

You can figure out the details.

Okay, whilest we're on the subject of displacements, here's one. I think I know the answer, but back me up here.

If (When) I get displaced into another category and already have an awarded week of vacation approaching, I lose that vacation award and must rebid, correct?

I'm so FLOGGING ****ed about this. On september 1st I will be NINE days away from 2nd year pay. So NOT only am i prevented from filing unemployment with some 2nd year checks there, i'm SCREWED out of MONTHS of second year pay status.

I HATE THIS.

Last week a F/A was telling me that if a connecting UM misses the last flight out, Delta can't just "comp" the minor a hotel room (think Tom Hanks' character in "Big"). Could this drive an extra flight? I'm just wondering...

No, they do that all the time. UMs are not supposed to be on any last flight out of a hub, but occasionally parents still book them on it. And if the UM misses the connection/flight cancels, they will get a hotel room and someone from CS must stay with them for the night in an ajoining room. It's actually a pretty sweet deal, as you are on the clock the entire night.

A friend of mine and I chilled out at the airport Marriott all night a few years ago taking care of a brother/sister combo that missed their connection cause their parents booked them with a 30 min turn in CVG.

Yes. Your vacation will go back into vacation open time for that domicile/seat/category. You must then rebid for available vacation time in your new domicile/seat/category.

I think this is incorrect.

I never lost any longevity for the 3 months I was furloughed. My anniversary came and I got a raise.

Don't worry - when Comair recalls you someday, 9 days later you'll start twelve months of year two pay. You won't miss a single day of it. Ka-Ching.

Luckily, year two pay next year will be more than year two pay is now. So from that standpoint, you win and Comair loses.

But seriously-
When Comair imposed a pay-freeze in June 2005, the guys still on probation did not get the freeze. They are on year five pay now, while guys senior to them are stuck back on year four pay. So who knows how this crap will play out?
