Comair updates?

It seems like this month they are approving a lot more. I couldnt get anything approved in for December. Also a an idea...if you drop a trip during the saw, then pick up a trip or even the same trip after the saw closes, then it is paid at 150%. Kind of risky, but it can be done.

That practice of dropping trips in the SAW and snagging them back for time and half is the biggest reason they hardly advertise Open Time and are quick to assign reserve pilots the trip. (Not saying I've never done it before though

I talked to a planner as I was working with my schedule and she said they usually try to approve/disapprove within a few hours. Also, you can put a "backup" trip for the same days as an initial request and it will just be thrown away if the first one is approved. This allows you to still be the first one to bid for a secondary trip and not just hope you'll get the first one. Another thing to remember is the SAW stays open for 72 hrs, so even if there isn't a trip you want right now, there may be something hours or even a day later. I think I was just very lucky in changing 3 of my trips. One was approved after an hour...then I went out for awhile and there were different trips available when I came back. Those trips were approved about 5 minutes after I spoke with the planner...I probably shouldn't be mentioning all this, huh??
I think if you take the time to seriously look at your options you will be rewarded. Hope that helped!

The reason you do not see open time advertised as much as it used to be is because of line holders dropping trips and then picking up the same trip in open time for a 150%. If this get abused even more, we will never be able to drop and add trips.

I do not think they can stop us from doing that. There is nothing in the contract that prohinits that. The union would have something to say about that.....I hope. You should be able to get a trip taken away from a reserve if it is awarded to them early. Last month a trip was given to a reserve as soon as it appeared in open time. I called them about it and they put it back in open time, and then someone senior to me got it...oh well.

Yeah I think they're probably reluctant to just let people drop because of the 150% pay when the SAW closes...I've heard of many people in the past trying to do that. However, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't approve add/drops as long as you were the first one to ask for it and the trip is legal for you to operate. But what do I know, I'm not a scheduler. I'll tell you this though, I wasn't going to risk the SAW closing and not getting the trips I got.
