I'm confused as well. Yeah, there are a lot of duplicate questions, but if you drop out the 1900 (why would you drop out the 72 performance, if I recall, I had quite a few of those on mine), 135 section, and some of the other easy stuff, that cuts out quite a few. Besides, buy the book for whatever it costs these days, read the sections you need a couple times, and boom, ready for the test while saving $300. Can't believe somebody would pay $300 to read out of a book.

How were you able to do practically all your instructing in the Seminole?

Well I will tell you this, Eagle recently had a bunch of instructors retire or get sent back to the line, some of these guys had a god complex. While things have improved, there are still some instructors there that have thier own "agenda". They will try to screw you over if you let them, and you can go to management who will tell you they don't have instructors. I know of one guy who had a problem with an instructor who twice unsatted him accused the guy of not knowing even basic instrument, airmanship stuff. the instructor became very angry at the guy becuase he refused to sign the training reports (Unsats). Eagle to thier credit had the guy do a sim ride to see if he could fly, he proved the instructor wrong (The instructor that did the examination sim even wrote in his report that the guy knew everything the instructor claimed he didn't know like callouts, flow, limitations, etc.) and when he asked to have the false statements taken out of his record they refused, to him that was the deal breaker, he resigned and is now working for another regional, who, has a little history with Eagle and knows about the thier training department.

Eagle training is notoriously thorough/intense compared to other airlines. I was hired in a class of about 30 (when the mins were 1000/100) and we had about 5-6 fail out of training for various reasons. We had a few more fail their probation checkrides after 1yr on the line. We also have several FOs who upgraded to CA after 5000+ hrs in the right seat who received a pink slip on the upgrade checkride. Flowbacks from AA to AE had a good amount of failures as well. AE has a tough training dept, but if you put in the effort and have a good attitude you will make it through just fine.

I find it hard to believe that these guys washed out after one check-ride. That is not the way Eagle does things. There are some ball-busters in the training dept., but that shouldn't stop a prepared applicant from getting it done. If they can't get it done the first time they have two more chances, and typically with a different Examiner. I heard the SAAB program is the one that has been getting people. Just about an entire SAAB class washed out when I was there.

True, Eagle training is tough, but when you see things going in a way that my buddy did, its' better to get out. The good part, as he told me was that the airline that interviewed him saw right through Eagles' crap, and picked him up. There only concern was that he not bring any negativity with him from Eagle.

As far as guys busting after one check ride then being sent home, I have seen it and it does happen. Why? I don't know. One Alaskan bush pilot guy, super nice, was sent home after 2 days in the sim. Why? Allegedly the instructor did not "like" him. But then I heard some suppository was going back and telling on him because he questioned a few things he didn't care for.

Seriously, Eagle's training isn't that hard. It was my second airline and I thought it was a joy to answer that when the light came on, it didn't work. I didn't have to draw schematics from memory, know every temperature that created lights, etc. 3 strikes...one down isn't going to bite you unless you let it get into your mind.

FWIW, when I upgraded to captain at Eagle , 3 guys in the upgrade class ahead of me pink slipped the first time. None in my group did and we all had the same instructors. Probably not the instructor's fault. Most of them would let you slide until enough mistakes built up that they couldn't any longer.

Is the SAAB that much harder than the jets? Just curious because, I was planning on flying the SAAB first, so I would be able to hold line sooner.

Just out of saab training... I just came prepared every day and studied 1-2 hours every night. Didn't think it was very hard at all if you took it seriously.

Had 900/100 when i applied, just flight instructing.

I hold a line now first month out of IOE too
