Well,
There is an active effort among mainline pilots to demote the 190's down to the wholly owneds in lieu of new Airbus deliveries.
Mesa is teetering on the brink of a shutdown.
Many are forecasting a possibility of a dramatic economic turn around by mid 09".
Those are all optimistic items but real possibilities...The other thing is this: There are some odd goings on that really defy even the usual SBY nonsense..
One, they have known about loosing these aircraft since January. Probably as far back as November. Yet not even warn letters have gone out. Why?
Honestly I don't think SBY even knows what is going on. Mainline is up to something big regarding the wholly owneds. What is is I think will play out by mid-summer.
A new permanent bid was supposed to have been issued this month. It hasn't. Why?
In the past, PDT furloughed as soon as they had even the slightest but of justification. Yet despite a furlough having been economically warranted since last summer, no furlough. Why?
All my own observations..But interesting questions nevertheless.

That SBY does not even knows what is going on ??? I hardly doubt it .. they have a plan otherwise they won't be in bussiness. As it was said in the last executive letter "it is just a plan" and it does not always comes out as planneed. That they know what to expect in 5 - 10 years I put you money on it. That they will share it with you ??? absolutly NO.. They have not reason for; specially, if they know you are leaving in a 3 years.
Sorry to break your dreams but it is just my drunk night 2 cents share. So I might be wrong too; but who knows ????

The 190's would suck going to a regional, wholly owned or not, but might make a little sense if a flow-thru/back agreement were reached and jobs were given to some of the +/-300 furloughed from mainline. Please jebus don't let it happen though because the pay scale would be atrocious.

I use to work for Piedmont, the "big announcement" was always right around the corner but never came. I like the people at PDT and I hope I am wrong, but I wouldn't count on anything good coming to PDT from mainline. Good luck to all at PDT.

No dreams here Flyin High, just idle speculation for the sake of whimsical discussion. And they do indeed "Have a plan"...Holly Frack! The Cylons found Earth and took over SBY first!!! Run for your lives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One thing though FLYIN HIGH, you are dead wrong about scope...Airways has nothing to do with scope, that is a union issue and the mainline unions will relax it at their leisure if it benefits them. If you think they won't...You have not been paying attention. Scope has always been a pure BS argument.

So, down in CLT right now for CQ and here is what hey buddy said. Take it for what it is worth.
We staff 4 pilots per seat so 8 per aircraft. With 11 aircraft leaving, expect to furlough around 88 pilots. Of course that number can change but at least there is a guesstimate. A new perm bid should be finalized by mid next week. Also, the initial furlough will be around 20 for May. Also, no base closings in the near future (I don't believe that part). I asked them to put out a worse case scenario so we can prepare but who knows.
By the way, the ground test was pretty easy.
