I've been told living in base while on reserve is not so bad because you cut out the commuting problem. You sit at home until the call instead of sitting in a crashpad, so hopefully the arrangement will ease the experience of reserve and being the F.N.G.
Absolutely correct, and a wise move. You'll thank yourself every day you are on reserve, and you'll thank yourself when you can finally hold a a sh*tty uncommutable line. And then you'll thank yourself when you realize you are able to easily trade trips to get the days off that you want, since you don't have to worry about trading into something that's commutable, or that only gives you a day off between trips, or that ends too late to catch the last flight home, etc. And then you'll thank yourself when the weather goes to hell and you end up having an unexpected day off, or three days off, or they cancel your first or last turn and you can just go home instead of being stranded in the airport or crashpad or whatever miserable place you find to kill time.

It can be done if you aren't in debt up to your eyeballs and live on a budget. I did it on 2nd year prop FO pay.

Flyby,

The next bid closes this Sunday, right? How do we find out if we have been awarded our base bid? Do we just check 3* in Sabre?

Right now in there it shows me as being an ORD FO starting in June..does that mean that if I'm awarded DFW it won't be until July or will it replace ORD starting in June?

What it says is that you're schedule to finish IOE and start in June in your base.

It takes a little time until the "preliminary bids" comes out. Normally in Jetnet you go to Eagle Pilots > Bid Info/Crew Services and will be a link that will say "Preliminary System Bid Awards March".

Yo download that PDF and verify if your name is on it and if they award it. (I think you will get it). So by the end of March you should be able to know.

Then it comes out a "flowplan" in which will say when do you transfer to DFW.

I don't know if will show in you 3*.

Now that could take a while... They just posted the flowplan from the bid results that came out at the beginning of March, so expect a 2-3week wait until you see an updated flowplan after the bid results are out.
