Why is the CRJ/ORD junior? Seems like a good gig....

Also, what is the difference between long and short hauls? Pros/cons?

I believe that's how it's done. When are you interviewing?

Folks like to live in DFW, for cost of living reasons, and a short commute to work for the most part. Unless you live in ORD, than it's a no brainer.

Long haul short haul, all depends what you like. Sit more sit less. I'm on the EMB, we mix it up a bit. Short haul good for last leg home.

This would be from the perspective of someone hired earlier this year, and in reference to the time off reserve as of now, and with projected flow/movement. I used the union excel sheet that is red/yellow/green showing if you could hold a base and would have a hard line or reserve, so hopefully this is fairly accurate, I know a FEW people in my class in DFW EMJ got hard lines in AUG, all CRJ ORD got hard lines, all JFK EMJ got hard lines, all MIA EMJ got hard lines, ORD EMJ are on reserve, LGA CRJ are on reserve, LAX EMJ are still flowing to LAX, and LGA EMJ would be S1/S3. SJU ATR would be a hard line, not sure about MIA, I think RSV, and DFW ATR was a composite line. This is FEB 11 DOH.

Hopefully this helps someone.

I would not use the information in the Interactive Alpa Excel Sheet for pourpose of base picking. Why? Easy...

I'm a Nov 2010 Hire, I was supposed to get a hard line in June (that what it said the alpa excel sheet in January). We are in August and I still don't hold a line yet.

Things changes from time to time, don't pick a base or equipment because rsv time will be "shorter". Guys in Feb Class have lines in the CRJ already in ORD, but in the last couple of classes there haven't been CRJ slots available. So the last couple of guys will be in reserve more time that they expected.

Pick the base and equipment in base of your necessities. NO or short commute should be your primary goal, even if you sit reserve for almost a year like me. BTW I'm in ORD EMJ, in the top 20 in the RSV list so I get almost whatever I want.

This is spot on advice, just keep in mind I was not looking long term out with what I posted, just what worked out. If you were in JFK MIA DFW EMJ or any CRJ or ATR base you would be off RSV. Only places you would be on RSV still are ORD LGA AND LAX EMJ.

Well I'm telling that to the other guys willing to get something they probably don't like that much because of the information provided. LOL!...

I picked ORD EMJ, because I wanted to be in ORD and the other CRJ ws in LGA which I would be bidding out of there...I would be a line holder like 4 months ago.

Oh well, decisions...lol!

Ya but who knows you might have the last laugh, if they close LGA CRJ and most those guys go to ORD because they open LAX or some other hypothetical that is extremely possible, then you might be very happy you went the way you did (and I am not trying to start a debate, I was just giving a huge what if, I know it most likely wont happen). There is no way to tell, and I agree with you strongly about that.

I think LGA EMJ right now might be a good bet for a new hire, as they continue into 07 upgrades that place will see some huge movement.

Cool

Please explain how ORD EMJ is not considered junior?? Unless I am missing something (which could very well be the case), for the August bid period there were 221 lines (excluding the reserve and composite lines). As of the July 31st seniority list from the ALPA site there are 225 FOs. Am I missing something? It looks to me like only 4 would be on reserve (which doesnt sound right).

Ya that is not right, because PilotJ3 is a NOV 10 DOH and is on RSV, and I am FEB 11 DOH and EMJ ORD classmates are on RSV and have a good chunk above them. As I posted above for AUG my class mates that are on RSV on the jet side are LGA CRJ, LGA ERJ (if there was one), LAX EMJ and ORD EMJ, DFW the line was mid class between line and RSV. JFK EMJ, ORD CRJ, MIA EMJ, DFW EMJ (1/2 of them) all got hard lines. When it comes to ATR it seems that SJU would have a line, MIA I think would be RSV, and DFW is a composite.

Edit: After re-reading your post, if you are looking at the flow plan on the ALPA site, that shows what is projected when all movement is complete, like when I look at MIA it is basically what things will look like come Jan 1st 2012 minus any new hires to come after it was made.

Just did a 3XP and counted 276 FOs for August. I'm guessing ALPA is wrong.
