I just got hired by Pinnacle and am wondering if I will be making 23 an hour my second year, or something close to what Mesaba pilots make if this contract can get finished before my second year starts. I know this is a heated subject, but I am hopeful that the contract will be better by then (Feb. 2012). Seems like a long way away, and plenty of time to get everything completed because of the acquisition of Mesaba. Am I being too optimistic?
Ain't gonna happen, chief...when you sign up to work for Pinnacle, you're signing up to work for whatever the current payrates are, and nothing more....sorry...

This is an entirely new situation as opposed to just getting 9E a contract.
And don't forget this is a joint MEC, I know the XJ MEC brings alot of experience to the table, regardless of any deficiencies of the 9E chair.
And you still believe someone (anyone) could get a contract with PNCL management not wanting it to happen?

However, I don't think any amount of leadership, whether from the XJ MEC or elsewhere is going to lead to a fair TA...you're dealing with 9E Management, whrere they'll spend $10 just to keep from having to pay you a dollar more...it's just the management philosophy from the top down over here...which you'll soon start to realize...
Example--trip trades, where an automated system would reduce unplanned absences by 25-40%, yet they still have human beings answering trip trade requests via email for 1600 pilots + all our FAs out of sheer stupidity...I have called them a month in advance and told them I had FMLA approved for a certain date for a dr appt, and they STILL wouldn't even consider approving my trip trade even though I told them on a recorded line I'd be calling in sick if that day if they couldn't approve it....sheer effing stupidity...all so they can exert control...

9E guys, you are lucky to have someone like higney85 giving it to you straight.
The joint MEC has decided to not picket while the company is bargaining in good faith, by all indications the company is doing their part to keep that bargain. That was a strategic decision by our union leaders, I don't think it shows weakness at all, as long as things keep progressing.
Like higney85 said, if they can't come to an agreement then polish your shoes and dust off your hats, and you won't be able to find an XJ guy not willing to do their part to walk in circles with you.
If they want it ugly, we've been through ugly.

If someone said what you said above in any of our ops lounges, you'd be laughed out of the room...
"Company negotiating in good faith."
Yeah...that's why, you know, we have 2.5 days to close 25 sections...
Give me some of what you're drinking, buddy...

Dude they all said we'd have a contract when we started in 07 and 08...and they told the guys in 04 and 06 they'd have a contract...and--well, you get the drift...
Ain't gonna happen, chief...when you sign up to work for Pinnacle, you're signing up to work for whatever the current payrates are, and nothing more....sorry...

Hey when I was in newhire class in 2003, J. Young (anyone remember that turd burglar?) promised that they would keep us at least at industry average pay!
I wonder what happened to him... after 2 complete system meltdowns and 2 accidents he was booted and replaced by another class act from FDX, haha.

Look, if I had been at 9E over the last 6 years I probably wouldn't have any faith that this is going to happen at all, hell I give it less than 50% probability of happening anyway.
I don't think anyone, not 9E, not XJ, or Jesus Christ can get a TA if PNCL management doesn't want it.
But I believe they do want it because they are building a good little empire and are ready to have these labor issues behind them.
Maybe they don't want it, but according to the negotiators I've spoken with they are negoitiating, they are not going to just give away anything, they want something and whatever that is will make or break these talks. 3 days is plenty of time if they really want it to happen.

The negotiations that you see are just a mirage in the desert.
When they say "we have made considerable progress, but yet still have considerable progress yet to go...." That's BS.
Here's the truth: Management knows PRECISELY what it will take for a TA to pass. It will only take 3 more MINUTES of negotiating. All they have to do is dial SE's cell number and state this "How's this sound? TA1 pay rates, min rest of 9 hours, max duty of 14, short stay hotels, long stay hotels over 12 hours, trip rig of 4:1, duty rig of 2:1, vacation stays the same, insurance stays the same, min days off 12 across the board, no ready reserve......we got a deal?" And the answer better be "YES!"
But you see, there's no motivation from managements perspective, otherwise we wouldn't be nearing our 7th year of negotiations. Why change anything when everythings fine? The flights leave on time, the pilots come to work and fly 100 hours a month, our maintenance costs are down, what's there to change? If that stays the same, then 9E will never see a new contract. Forget it. They will be negotiating until the end of time.
Phil Trenary is the next Frank Lorenzo. It's a numbers game to him. Costs low, and bonuses high. Keep the FAA happy by inviting them to your high class country club to play golf and stay in tight with Delta mainline.

Ill just join you guys and throw up my hands, complain about things I can do nothing about, spread fear and dissention, tear down my union while they are in the midst of a merger negotiation, because this is all for nothing anyway.
I hope you guys aren't the union reps at 9E.
