All I think when I read this and the rest of the thread is: "All your base are belong to us!"

AxialFlow,
I understand your point of view, you went to Colgan for a quick upgrade and now you have to be integrated with some relatively senior pilot groups, it's frustrating.
What about the guys that went to Mesaba pre 9-11?
6, 7, 8 year FOs?
Or 9E guys going through endless years without a contract.
Colgan guys are coming out good in this, not like you dreamed it, but ask anyone else if the last 10 years has been like they dreamed it.
The SLI is just a mathematical formula, integrating 9E and XJ is easy, just make 2 lists, one that is your relative percentage in your company, apply it to the new combined list. That becomes your relative seniority. Then make another list with hire dates of all pilots, find where you fall on both lists and average them, that's your position in the new company.
Now Colgan throws a wrinkle because they are so much more junior by hire date, ALPA has an algorithm already established on how to handle this, because of Colgans relative seniority number, they won't be hosed, and all the Colgan guys are going to reap the benifits of having a better contract with better work rules and better pay.
And many more airplanes and bases to bid for.

You have to post the link because I do not think many will get the joke and instead talk crap about how bad your grammar is

Okay, so.....
Mesaba is bringing a good contract to Colgan
also Mesaba is losing a bunch of Saabs
Pinnacle has brought and is bringing the money for the Qs
Colgan is (and with the conversion to the Mesaba name) the largest TP carrier and with the Qs is bringing growth
All of us are screwed a bit through furloughs, undercutting, or management that considers us indentured servants. And we all bring something to the table through growth or money.
Some of us will get "screwed" and some will "hit the jackpot", but if the integration is done correctly, the vast majority of us will be relative unaffected.
I would like to believe each member of the SLI committee is all for equality, but I would be happy if each is 60% for their group and 40% for equality. If that is the case, after the negotiating is done, the result will probably be pretty close to 'fair and equitable".
We all want to find ourselves at the top of the list, but the truth is IT WON'T HAPPEN. We must look at the big picture and realize a one or two year setback could be the path to the greater good.
Heaven knows there won't be anything signifigant happening at the mainlines for a few years, so we must hunker down and make the best of it.

And the Colgan FOs at 60% seniority (who could've applied to PNCL but chose Colgan instead) are now hosed b/c they have to wait another 4 years for upgrade because of the old man uninformed "date of hire" argument.

The beauty of this conversation is that the union in their wisdom made this decision rest with the MEC members and I believe they will make this as fair as possible for everyone involved.

I must be "old" and "uninformed" then, because I believe that experience is everything.

The upgrade pace at Colgan was an anomaly. Whats going on there is very far outside of industry norms and pilots are being anything but "hosed." Everyone who had any idea of what they were getting into should've known it could stop at any minute. An upgrade is never guaranteed or yours until the day you're sitting in class.
Also for those saying they're getting "hosed" because they're going to be merged into one of the largest jet regional operators in the country, will be soon getting a union contract, will have a multitude of additional bases and aircraft they can bid, and will no longer be part of a potential whipsaw, but may have to wait a little longer to upgrade into a plane your pilot group isn't even paying for - I would redefine your definition of being "hosed."
You probably currently have the fastest seniority movement in the industry, things like that don't stay that way forever. Plus you're merging into one carrier where dozens (hundreds?) of pilots have been on reserve for 2-3 years and counting, plus in contract negotiations for something like 5 years (any Pinnacle pilots know for sure?) and another carrier where hundreds of pilots are being furloughed and moving backwards. I don't really think youre the ones being "hosed" and I wouldn't use that term around pilots from the other two groups.
Of course, none of this is directed towards anyone in particular, just in general towards any Colgan pilots who may feel this way.
