One peeve of mine is the epaulettes and wings are given out basically right away. IMO those need to be earned not given.
Not unusual Cruz. Other airlines give you the whole uniform, keys and hat on the 2nd week. (You order, I mean) even before the check ride. I know eagle does. But if you leave, you have to turn it all back in.

I've never heard of the wings being given, even if they are it's the fact that we put on a full pilot uniform crew badge and all. I just don't like that.

For class? Wow what a pain in the arse.

We got wings and epaulets, Jepps, all the company assigned crap and what not on day one, and our crew badges in the last week (apparently losing your information is like a Continental hobby).

The guys hired at GIA now are at the beginning of a hiring wave and will be ready with Thier tpic when the wave starts at the majors. You my friend will just have upgraded. By the time you get on with a major it will be towards the end of the cycle and you will be stuck on narrowbody reserve for years and furlough fodder. These guys will all upgrade to captain at a major before you and will hold a widebody before you. By dissing GIA now you are setting yourself up for a frustrating and mediocre career.

In the end I conservatively estimate that my jump from Pinnacle FO to GIA Captain will net ne at a minimum $400,000 more in career earnings and untold improvement in QOL. That's what it's all about in the end.
If that is the case then I don't have a problem with it. What I do have a problem with is under qualified captains flying peoples families around with barely any prior 121 experience.

Gulfstream is really trying to get thier act toghether.
Those of you who are wondering about a class date in Jan, what has happened is there is a qual class coming in. The company is letting those who turned down recall and accepted work elsewhere who may now be furloughed or about to be come back and get thier job. They resigned thier senoirity # when they left, so for Gulfstream to do that is pretty cool. New hire class toward the middle or end of January. HIRING INDEFINITE.
Back to studying and 3- sorry if I came off as a anal spincter. I appreciate your advice and yes, I am new to airline flying. All the best to you.
Good man! Enjoy training and have a great time out there on the line!

It's not the end of the world, but I think it's kind of premature to be fully decked out and be able to jump seat without even being a qualified airline pilot.

Did you ever consider that since they hired you and you passed all their preliminary checks, that you ARE an airline pilot until, or unless YOU prove otherwise (failure of training or integrity, ect.). Maybe they want you to start to act like a professional in all your daily routines, since you will be on the line in short order representing them (training will be over before you know it, trust me). Did you ever consider the ID and cass privledges are a blessing designed to allow you to go see your family on days off during training (not every one will be in the sim at the same time. Some will experience a delay during sim portion, since there is ussually only 1 sim.)

One piece of advice before you head into your career, never ever look a gift horse in the mouth and find a change in your way of thinking. This career requires you to see thru the forest despite all the trees. Good luck

It's fine to wear the pilot get up and act like one, but until you pass IOE you are nothing more than a student; plain and simple. I will not go around and say that I'm one until that day happens. Since it's required for class I will wear it correctly and go on with life, but by no means is it a gift to me since I have not earned the right to wear the wings, badge and epaulettes imo.

Are you expecting some big winging ceremony, where you all line up on stage in your uniform and hats? It's not the military... Ha actually come to think of it, half my class didn't even get theirs because they didn't EMAIL the uniform gal to request them to be shipped out.

I'm not expecting anything like. I want it given to me after Sim's with a congrats now off to the line you go. It seems my generation is just used to everything being given to them and I was raised to earn it.
