1.) Describe your aviation experience (time, type, hours, etc..)

ATP w/ ERJ PIC Type
4,200 TT
1,800 Turbine SIC
Regional FO for 3.5 years

2.) What are you doing now? Does it pay well? How much if you are willing to share? Compare and Contrast your quality of life.

Desk job and check airman at a flight school and 135 PIC/instructor on light twins. Pays between $40-50k depending on how much I fly. Home almost every night, with just enough overnights to keep life interesting and give me some alone time away from home.

3.) What would it take to bring you back to the airlines?

$35-40k starting pay with a jump to $50k second year. I absolutely refuse to commute for a regional, but since I live in ORD that's not as much an issue.

O.K. another addition to my list of requests to what it would take to bring me back, listen up regionals.....

Stop taking $50 from an already pathetic paycheck to pay for that overpriced M&H garbage uniform you mandate!

ATP, 6,200 hours, 2 type ratings, 3,000 turbine PIC,

3700TT, 2700 Turbine, 500 turbine PIC, ATP, 2200 hrs at a 121 regional.

I left a regional in 2011. I left for the same reasons, pay and QOL. I looked at what my life would likely be 10 years down the road and didn't like what I saw.
I fly a cj part 91 for some business owners. I go to great destinations and actually get to enjoy them. All of my trip expenses are paid. My pay is 60% higher than if I was still an FO at my regional.
It's not all roses, but I feel much more job satisfaction and my employers appreciate my efforts.
Im fairly confident I wouldn't work for a regional again.

I would return to a regional if part time was available. If I could fly 2 days per month only, say maybe 10 hours over those two days, I would consider it. I'm not saying I would do it cheaply or anything like that, but I would only be interested in being a part time airline pilot. If that means I'm not ever going to be Captain as a part time pilot, that's ok with me too.

After leaving the airlines in 2000, I went off into Information Technology and today own my own small technology business with employees. Today, I own my own airplane and enjoy flying more than I ever did as a hobby.

Perhaps we are not looking at the situation in the correct manner? I have a buddy whose wife is an orthodontist so he does not care about pay so much. He could work for free if needed and is contemplating closing his business to pursue his childish folly. Seems to me that modern airline happier at their under performing hobby careers. Seems to me that the secret to success in part 121 is to figure out a way to turn this lousy career into a fun hobby.

Soooooo....the low paying airlines are having a hard time attracting qualified applicants (which are out there) and your solution is to have pilots win the lottery so they can afford to work cheap? Am I missing some sarcasm here?

How about these airlines deal with the market realities of the situation and pay enough to attract applicants? The regional airlines have simply lost access to the 300 hour pilots and are now crying foul. If they can't pay what it takes to attract pilots, then they deserve to suffer accordingly.

I contacted my previous employer about part-time airline flying (2 weekends/month or so) but was informed by the CP that they didn't have any opportunities like that with the company. I didn't bother going out and checking on other companies, as I'm a local guy who wants to remain local...I'm sure there are some guys who'd give up a couple weekends a month to fly, plenty who already do...and it'd benefit some other line pilots who'd like to have weekends off as well.

Maybe one day it will be a reality. The truth of the matter is the problem is not about the lack of pilots available today, its the lack of pilots currently in the pipeline.

7000 TT 5700 Turbine 400 TPIC ATP CL65 - ex commuter
I left the regionals after 7 years of service almost 2 years ago and haven't given it a thought since I left. I took a local corporate position and am much happier; no commuting, no ice cream suit, no flight case, no bad attitudes..etc. i keep in touch with a couple folks and they are no happier then they were when I left. I fly 10 days a month and most of the trips are day trips. I always wanted to fly for continental but now I'm in my forties and the thought of going back to 1st year pay, reserve and possibly commuting for a indeterminable amount of time turns me off. I wouldn't go back.

Somehow that is a logical disconnect for me. Just like Tea Partiers who want smaller government but cash Social Security checks and are on Medicare.
So let me get this straight. Since I'm a "teapartier" who's PAID into those programs and will someday possibly cash a Social Security check that I reluctantly put money into...YOUR logically disconnected? Last time I checked a larger government and the unions have not helped me do a damn thing. I suppose being a "teapartier," as you've described us "smaller government" people, I shouldn't need my military retirement either...let me just go give it back right now. Not.

5000 Total Time
1500 Turbo Prop
Part 121 and 135
Refused to even apply to regionals solely for the pay
Have a family with 2 kids
Refused to fly for the last 5 years because of the low starting pay and the threats of losing your job at any moment or simply busting your ride, the way they treat you when you do a mistake.

I will go back if first year pay at least is $40,000 and second year $60,000 and better treatment
