They wear 2 strips on their shoulders just the same as KLM and the rest.
Mesa is a dump don't compare it to airlines that have actual training departments and not some dump that hires people with no interview.
The interview process that a pilot has go through at LH or KLM would make a Mesa pilot look like a high school drop out.
Don't even try to compare this.
British Airways puts 350 hour pilots straight into the right seat of 737 and A320. 5 man cockpit? Really? Must be a round-the-world flight. Most I've seen is 3, but I could imagine 4 on a very long haul flight.

Where can I sign up for that?

I've always wondered about international crews, ultra long haul. Can anyone shed light on these? I did Sydney-LAX once, slightly over 16 hours. Would something like that require 2+ crews, or are flight time/rest requirements different for international?

Broseph,

No need to get all crazy, I'm sure it must be frustrating to be you. If it prevents you from kicking your dog (if you can actually get home more than 3 days a month) feel free to lash out on facebiter. I love animals, especially puppys.

BTW- I'm literally LOL'ing at how hypocritical your post is.

Bless,

facebiter

You deserve it by starting this immature thread.

I have had many Mesa guys in the jumpseat and spent time talking with others. I know you do not represent the majority of the Mesa pilots by starting this arrogant, immature thread. You give a bad name to a lot of guys the have been through hell in this industry.

I can say the same thing of multiple other experienced people coming to Mesa for the quick upgrade now--it's not "selling out"--it's a purely cynical decision based on our experiences being at "good" regionals.

If I'm not on CA pay within 12 months, I'm going to take one of the multiple corporate/international contract gigs I can go do at anytime. Or hopefully/maybe JetBlue or Spirit. Does that make you feel any better about my "selling out?"

I'll go a step further and say that I don't think the new hires with CFI-only time chasing the quick upgrade are sellouts either. They're making a cynical (and smart) economic choice--roll the dice that they'll get in and attrition will pick up, or that further growth will happen. If it doesn't work out, guess what? Every other crappy regional will still be hiring FOs for the rest of the decade--who cares that you lost a year of RJ pay and seniority at Eagle/XJet/etc. to roll the dice on attrition/growth at Mesa?

The SELLOUTS are the individuals sitting widebody CA at a legacy who wouldn't leave when they turned 65.

How is it possible for the "SELLOUTS sitting widebody CA at legacy" to not leave when they turned 65?

You know what I meant, and if you don't then you're so new to this industry I won't even waste the time 'splaining it to you.

A) Did not work at Eagle. I do respect it, and it's pilots for taking a stand.

B) Whoever hired Tim Martins deserves a medal. That was a great source of entertainment, second only to the hilarity that would ensue if one of Mesa's very own CFI-to-hiring-pilots-in-60-days wonder FO were profiled in ALPO Weekly or whatever that rag is called. If anyone wants to get me an early Christmas present please make this happen.

Let's do an experiment, let's follow a pilot who gets hired at Mesa and a pilot who gets hired at SkyWest.

By Year Two...

Mr. Mesa upgrades. Until now, he's made $47,000 cumulatively (based on APC pay scales and minimum monthly guarantee).

Mr. SkyWest is a ways away from upgrading and has made a decent $55,164.

Year Five

Mr. Mesa has been a Captain three years and just got hired at Delta. Through now, he's made a cumulative $246,728 in five years. Not shabby.

Mr. SkyWest is now upgrading. In the last five years he has made $171,264. This is ~$75,000 lower than his Mesa counterpart through the same point.

Year Seven

Mr. Mesa is an FO at Delta on the A320. Through now, he's made $388,728. And he has two years of seniority at Delta.

Mr. SkyWest is also about to get hired on at Delta. He's two years behind his counterpart, and through now has made $313,464, $75,000 less.

Have you crunched the numbers?
What if a major doesn't call? Even with a squeaky clean record and internal recs there are no guarantees.

Here was my timeline:
Year 1: new hire 1000 hour CFI at Skywest
Year 2: made almost 60k as a FO. Lots of open time
Year 3: upgraded at 26 months.
Year 4: Interviewed and hired at Northwest. In the pool. Delta didn't call.
Year 5: northwest and delta merged. Am I still in the pool? Delta didn't call
Year 6: delta flushed the northwest pool. They didn't call either.
Year 7: delta didn't call
Year 8: delta didn't call
Year 9: delta didn't call
Year 10: Delta didn't call. US Airways did though.

I spent a lot more time at Skywest than originally planned. It was a good company and the pay and work rules were above average. If no one called I would have been ok making a career of it there.

Would you be ok with making a career out of MESA?

Has it already been identified that the 1.5 year upgrade was not a recalled furlough. Wasn't Mesa recalling in 2013?

A recall wouldn't have a 2013 DOH, it would be his original DOH.
